to stop all of this vagrancy junkies and alcoholics who can do better for themselves but choose to be tramps living on the streets begging people for money after they've spent their hand outs most proberly on the first day ! would margaret thatcher or bill clinton have tolerated all of this ?
Usually the people that are on the street are people that society needs to look after. They can't help what has happened to them really...due to addiction or circumstance.
I'd rather support these people than a bunch of illegals that should not be getting all the help they get..
The politicians will do something brilliant like making appliance manufacters wax coat the refridgerator boxes....so they will be waterproof for the homeless to live in......then claim they improved housing for the poor as an election campain plus.
I'm homeless... The difference is, I'm doing something about it. They, on the other hand... they're hopeless. I may not have a home but they have no hope. One makes a person determined, the other makes a person desperate.
Not claiming to have any answers on either homeless OR immigration, Lene, but that just seems like a harsh stance to me.
*bare with me on this*
Have you ever had to (or was more convenient to) ride the bus? On a bus (sorry for the gross generalization), a lot of times you will find homeless and illegals who ARE JUST HERE..it's a fact of life.
If these people (most of whom are just trying to get along) aren't privy to things like health care.....you are taking whatever they have to the office with you, and it's exponential from there.

There are many reasons for homelessness, it is not fair to place every homeless person into the same category. In this country you have people who have lost their jobs, those who have exceptional educations are forced to take meager jobs. Some of the people who are employed can't find housing because they don't earn enough to pay the outrageous rents which usually require you to pay at least one month's rent in advance. Then you have people who have served in the armed forces, some who have been traumatised by what they've endured and what do they come back to? They return to a country that does not offer them adequate healthcare or mental health services. Some return home unable to work and very often the drinking and drug use starts while engaging in warfare, it is a means of coping. On the other hand there are people who are quite capable of working who milk the system. In this country the best thing that ever happened is to overhaul the Social Services system which was originally designed to help people who were really in need. What bugs me about the state of homelessness in our country is the fact that there are many schools, hospitals, business, etc., that have been shut down, it seems to me that some of these empty buildings could be used for housing for the numerous homeless people and their families! Also, we really do need to help people in our own country before we dish out money in foreign aid, the US is always sending aid to everyone else, who can we call to US???
