Romantic is a mood. So being romantic is being in the mood for romance.

One cannot say that it is an inborn or aquired skill, because it is not something we feel with everybody all the time.
So we might act very romantically with somebody we feel very attracted to, but completely un-romantically with somebody who means nothing to us.

Being romantic though is not just a question of feeling, it is also our ability to express what we are feeling inside.

Just buy, or borrow, some teenager`s magazine, or those ones for young wives..... and then do the things they suggest... Like the Dinner for Two, the Candles, Dim Lights, Compliments, Gifts, the Out of Africa Dinner for Two on the Lawn at Sunset....

Or get a clip-board and stand outside supermarkets on a Saturday morning, and ask females (or men, or both) What Do They Consider Romantic?... like you doing a Market Research Project.... People love to give their opinions, as you can see by this posting of mine!!!!!!!!dancing

Yes I agree here... When the man is Romantic, then it leaves the women with nothing to do. Its the womans job to Do the romantic things, and the man to Say the Right Things.

Now, that is what I was intending to say...but thought I better not.... When the man gets romantic, then personally I find that a bit scary .... cause its obvious whats on his mind, and thats a put-off, for me anyway.... I like things spontaneous.

The other thing about "leaving the woman with nothing to do" means ... well, that Now she has to do Something Romantic in return, and when that happens, then my mind switches off... and he does more romantic things, and things begin to be sort of one-sided, from his point of view. Like... I come home from work and he has layed out a table for two in the garden under the trees, the Out Of Africa Scene... white cloth, candles, snacks, wine in cooler, dinner in oven.. and then proceeds to stare greedily at me while I`m trying to relax and enjoy things but getting the impression we gotta hurry up with all this scenery stuff and get down to basics ... cause thats what this is all about anyway?!

And so.... then I gotta compete with the Out of Africa scene, and think up something Romantic too.... and I get the Loss of Memory thing ... and then I rather not come home from work at all...!

Whereas, if the silly git just spoke nicely, and left me to do whatever romantic things I can think up, without competition, life would be much more pleasant and relaxed... and we`d still get down to the basics!

Genau! Yebo! Yes! Planned Romantic is Not Romantic. It reminds me of the "canned lion killing" where the lion is virtually tame, lives in a fenced in area, and the "hunter" can pay big bucks to shoot it.... and imagines he is one of the "Big White Hunters".... and then he poses with his dead lion and expects women to gasp in awe.

Me, I prefer the Real Genuine Hunter, who goes out into the wilderness and tracks down a Killer Animal, taking days to stalk it thru thick bush, then ambushes it, and kills with his hunting knife in hand to claw combat, skins it, tans the hide, and uses it for a bedside mat, and makes me a necklace from its teeth. Now thats romantic.

Then you're not going to get any romance from me. I am an animal lover and would never kill one to impress any woman.
In fact if I had to choose who to kill, it would'nt be the animal for sure, but the one who would have asked for the animal's head. She would be the most unromantic of females!

LOL! The poor fellow that started this thread didn't seem to have gone past the first date stage yet....as of this moment, there is not a "Dummies Guide, nor an Idiot's Guide to Being Romantic, though I would think it would be a best seller if there was one; write the publishers and urge them to get one out as there seems to be lots for the un-romantic and crass.
I already have a part-time avocation with Alex(Akdop, remember her) in Amsterdam at her "Academy for Les Girls"! with silk whips, high top boots and a monocle! %D Alex plays "the blue angel" a la Marlene Detreich...
