" Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.
Global average air temperature near the Earth's surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the past century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations," which leads to warming of the surface and lower atmosphere by increasing the greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes have probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950, but a small cooling effect since 1950. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the only scientific society that rejects these conclusions. A few individual scientists disagree with some of the main conclusions of the IPCC.
Climate models referenced by the IPCC project that global surface temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100. The range of values reflects the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions and results of models with differences in climate sensitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. This reflects the large heat capacity of the oceans.
An increase in global temperatures may in turn cause other changes, including sea level rise, and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation resulting in floods and drought. There may also be changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, though it is difficult to connect specific events to global warming. Other effects may include changes in agricultural yields, glacier retreat, reduced summer streamflows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.
Remaining scientific uncertainties include the exact degree of climate change expected in the future, and how changes will vary from region to region around the globe. There is ongoing political and public debate regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at combating greenhouse gas emissions.........."
I have just quoted it from wikipedia.....my friends..we are from different countries (both developed and developing) in this world....so our opinion about this phenomenon may differ from person to person ....tell us ur opinion......what u think..who is to be blamed....government..u..or me...?????
Think about all that crap coming out of the exhuast pipe going up into the sky floating there building together making a magnifying lens that the sun shines through.
Do you remember as a kid burning paper with a magnify glass till it caught fire!?
Well the enviromental problems became very popular the last months...In a few months the whole issue will be forgotten again. You see people don't care about scientific things. The media treat such scientific issues only superficially. All agree that SOMETHING must be done but they haven't agreed yet what could be done. This is one of the things i hate about the world we live. All the problems are treated superficially and without proper thought and plan.
I will tell you some information to understand the nature of the problem. In Greece, the goverment spends lots of money for the University to make research about enviromental problems. They do research, they find some things and they report them to the journals. The people are not informed about the results of the research. They spend money, money and money again just to have scientists publish results in Journals and then nothing is done. Nobody considers the results. So why they give money for research? I don't know. It's a problem with politicians i guess....They never know nothing about anything but they are in their posts to solve the problems. But they have no idea even for the nature of the problems. This is a kind of madness i think. How a politician who is e.g. a lawyer solve problems that have to do for enviroment?
You can't single out one specific thing and say,"that's it". Cars are likely the least of it compared to industry. Look at all the coal fired generating plants all over the world. The chemicals being used for all kinds of applications. Nuclear weapons testing. The list goes on forever. I still tend to think it's a natural cycle and mother nature is the primary source of the warming trend, we just slightly amplified and sped up the process. Unfortunately there's no money for scientists or a platform for politicians with that line of thinking so the blame will continue until we're all extinct just like the dinosaurs.
