Here in New York’s A.S.P.C.A , the visit alone can range around $94.00 up to $129.00 That’s just to find out what’s wrong with him. My dog passed away sometime last month. According to old records he was over 20 years old. I had no idea he lasted that long. It cost me $185.00 to have my expired dog put away properly.
Having a pet can be a very expensive investment. I can’t even imagine how much money went into keeping this dog alive for this long. Overall, no regrets.

That is quite a hefty bill..........probably more than what the bill would have been had it been a human diagnosis.......

But, if I were going to take the responsibility of owning a pet, I would expect to pay what ever necessary to keep it healthy.

You were not foolish...you were taking care of your pet....

applauseYOU BET!!! When you decide to get a pet (of any kind) you take on the responsibility of it's care & all the expense that goes along with it. Also you reap all the rewards like the loyalty, unconditional love, companionship that pet has to offer. I recently had to put to sleep my little dog which had been with me for 13 yrs & it just about broke my heart. I felt I had really lost my dearest & closest frien that day & would have spent any amount of money to save her. So, no, I don't think you were foolish at all in wanting to keep your pet from suffering & to help it get well.

I'd say it's a lot of money!

but I took a squirel that had fallen in my garden and took it to the vet, he was given antibiotics and they did some tests on him to check he was alright. I had it at home for a whole week until he was alright and we could let him go back home to his family.

I paid for it! and don't regret it!handshake

"Would you pay that much to save your pet or was I foolish"

No, my life's savings would be on the line to save Paddy for just a few more months as long as he wasn’t suffering as a result of prolonged and unnecessary treatment.

LOVE..
All love has a price.
If you had a husband and been married 40 years and there was an operation that was going to impoverish you to the same extent as the $300.00..
Would you pay for his operation and save his life?

If yes,,then you were not stupid
If no,,then don't get any more animals

Personally I think vet bills are absoultely outrageous and are the cause of suffering to more animals than are fixed.
There is more poor people than rich..and you have be rich to afford the bills these days.

My sympathies
