Its generally accepted that football (sorry i cant bring myself to call it soccer) is the worlds most popular spectator sport. But why is it viewed with so much indifference in America?
In 2002 USA reached the quarter finals of the world cup. In fact they were only beaten 1-0 by Germany to prevent them reaching the semi-final. This was an amazing achievement that would have been celebrated by most countries around the world with much fervour.
In fact i believe this sporting exploit went mainly unnoticed back home in the States.
If America were to embrace football as much as the rest of the world i'm sure they would become one of the top international teams on the world stage.
As far as my opinion on American football goes.

Go Patriotscheering cheering

Well, if Malta ever managed to reach the World Cup finals, for us it would be as if we've reached the final itself, or better, won the cup!!

Last Saturday we drew Turkey in a Euro 2008 qualifying match, and we celebrated as if we've won.

Going to your original post, if America embraced football as it does other sports, it would surely will become one of the top 10 teams, as it has the money required to support professional teams. Just give it 15 to 25 years, and it will be one of the top teams for sure.

Its hard to find people past high school or college age in this country that play um... soccer. I love American footbal. I'm a crazy football fanatic. I just can't get into soccer, no matter how hard I try.

I have been a Manchester United semi-fan for a while, but the only reason I knew of their existence was because of Becks. I used to be head over heels for the man! Ahaha! Once he came here to play soccer... he lost that mystique. I don't know what it is. Soccer is just never going to be popular here, no matter who they get or how much they pay them. Sad, but true.

Hey, we don't play cricket either. laugh

Whether they do or not, I'm not really bothered. But when they do take it seriously, I agree with you, heaven help the rest of the world!

Also, as the population becomes more and more diluted with immigrants, esp Mexicans, it'll take off more and more.wine
