I am an advocate of obedience training. It makes the dogs and the owners so much happier with each other. Dogs as a rule are social animals and strive to please their owners. Training is more for the owner than the dog.

My dog is not destructive, though during his puppy days she chewed a few things she shouldn't have.. She isn't noisy but an excellant burglar alarm system only lets you know you have been invaded, whereas a dog prevents the invasion.

It was love at forst site! My Rottweiler is a house dog rather than an outside dog and I am thinking that fact alone makes her not quite typical. She is a gentle giant and a manly girl. She does shed even though she is a short-haired dog. She isn't alot of work but more like a joy to take out & enjoy..even when it's jst a potty break.

Everyone that knows her loves her, not to be afraid of her and she''d of made a therapy dog! People that do not know her, well, she is big and has big teeth and a big bark. Still, this sweet, little puppy grew into a horse. I still see the little gal that no one else can see anymore.

The job of a pet is to love its owner. But then again, when people seem to regard marriage as no more of a commitment than leasing a car. How much more must they devalue the lives of pets.

How can you expect them to regard a pet as a lifetime arrangement. Then again, look at all of the people that do not take care of their children and/or are in arrears in child support and so on, and if they devalue those things.

This is not even going into breeders and people who engage in dog fighting, which would be another tangent thread.wow scold

I understand what you're saying. It always made me angry when I would see people get an animal when it was a puppy, only to give it away when it grew up. I am of the same idea that a pet is like family. You get one, you take responsibility for it. You wouldn't give your kid away. I think you're right though, the mentality today is that everything and everyone is disposable.

I got my old pooch from the national k9 defence league.she was going to be put down because of her tempriment so I went to see her every night at the kennals and sat outside her cage talking to her for 8days.I nearly gave up because all she did was growl.I missed a day due to work commitments.but on the 9th or tenth day when I got there she did a little pee & twirled round.after that it was another week until she would let me in with her but gradualy she started to trust me.then I walked her for an hour evry day for about a month.then she was all mine.she is a missery with adults and kindov looks at me as it to say"GOD who are these idiots" but kids can hang off her.it took along time for that.years.with a muzzle on.the only thing with her I don't like is if anyone raises there voice to me or I'm play fighting with my delinquent mates she gose wild? don't know how to change this? does anyone know the answer please.good threadthumbs up

good on you Wiggy for saving a dog

if your dog likes treats, dog biccies etc.,
when you've got friends round let them try to give them to your dog
when she trusts your friends things might get better

my dad always said there's no dangerous dogs
only dangerous owners

cheers

Recently I lost my beloved beagle buddy Terabyte and the next week the vet I use called me and asked if I could possibly see fit to adopt a beagle one of her employees picked up a few days earlier, she was starved bad eye injury, mange ,scared, but she couldn't put her down there was still that spark, so I went and got her. Its been 1 week now and she's finally got enough to eat and hydrated and for the 1st time today crawled into my lap. It's OK that she's old and worn she will still make a good traveling buddy for me. So hats off to those who spay and neuter and those like me who can adopt less than perfect animals, it's their heart that countscheering

This is a brilliant thread, thanks for starting it!

My dog is brilliant at the hugs - but then she's a big dog LOL

Mind you, I've two cats and I'm sure the dog thinks she's a cat too ROFL

My biggest cat and the dog are like Bonnie and Clyde! The cat (whose not allowed on the work surfaces!) pulls things from the back of the worktop to the front; the pair of them get it on the floor; then the sods share the spoils !!!!!!

I have a great dog. She's an aussie/border collie and has quite the funny personality. She thinks she's the nanny of the house who has to make the cats behave. She actually tattles on them. She thinks my daughter is her responsibility too. I have a great story about her and my daughter.
We were at the lake and my daughter and her friend were in the water. I was sitting back a ways blocked by some trees, my dog was on a long chain so she could roam around. A man started walking up towards my daughter and her friend, he couldn't see me. He thought they were alone. My dog walked right out between him and the girls and wouldn't let him near them. Needless to say, he turned around and just about ran out of there.
She is such a part of my family, I don't know what we would do without her. smitten love
