WHY would any sane person think of taking a loaded firearm to a classroom or school for that matter? Just not right IMO
Teacher loses fight to take gun to class
PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) - An Oregon high school English teacher will not be allowed to carry her gun to school, a state circuit court ruled on Friday in a decision closely watched by both sides of the gun debate.
Shirley Katz, who has a legal permit to carry a concealed handgun, argued she needed the Glock semi-automatic pistol to protect herself from her ex-husband. She sued the school district when it told her carrying a gun was against a district policy prohibiting guns.
Circuit Judge G. Philip Arnold agreed with the district, saying "The District has a right to enforce this policy." he noted that employees "accept their jobs subject to, and knowing, the policy."
"We are pleased," said Dr. Phil Long, superintendent of the Medford School District. "This case was a distraction from our real mission, which is educating children."
The teacher had support from pro-gun rights groups. In light of multiple school shootings, some gun advocates have argued that teachers, and maybe even students, should be armed to prevent such tragedies in the future.
In April, a student shot dead 32 people at Virginia Tech University and earlier this week a gun-wielding student killed eight people at a high school in Finland.
"I was not particularly surprised," said Kevin Starrett, executive director of the Oregon Firearms Federation, whose group paid the teacher's legal bills and is discussing an appeal.

I agree. Guns have no business being in any school. However, I can see her point, too. But carrying a concealed handgun really the solution for her protection from he ex-husband? How sad it is that the legal system has failed her, too.
I agree, guns have no place in a school. I am surprised that a teacher would even want to do this, to take the chance a student might get the gun and it would go off.
It's all part of the country's mentality since the law breaker guy from Texas became president. America now has the thought process, that strength is in weapons, not in talk. The gumslinger mentality has become the code of conduct for every good American. If you are opposed to carrying weapons, you are considered a wimp. We live in a country that wants to regulate what happens in the bedroom...but let's not regulate weapons!! But, after all, it is the Christian Right that opposes gun legislation. While telling us what to do in our private lives!!

wow as far as i see it if you carry a gun/knife there is every chance you could use it. And once a life is taken sorry it was a mistake just don't cut it.
AGREED .... curly . I feel self defence as a plea or rather an excuse to carry firearms to a school is rather quite strange or suspicious ...
The incidents of firing that have occured have all had reasons .... doesnt mean that you need to be armed to face a possible attack or threat if any . What needs to be done .... is addressing the cause not solving a particular problem in hand .... it just doesnt help.
I live in a country with strict gun laws, that does not mean that it's impossible or even difficult to get your hands on one, just that u'll be arrested if caught. I've owned and worked with guns but even though I did have a concealed permit I never kept one with me. I have had my own weapon pointed at me in my own home and swore never again. In America people have the right to bear arms, that's their right, but common sense has to come into the picture somewhere........u don't walk into a lion's den wearing porkchops. Hate me or love me....just MTC
In theschools I am aware of,staff keeps their personal property in locked area of staff room.So she would not have it in the classroom.Only entering an exiting her job.Her husband is waiting outside for her...she fears for her life,I know in our country most law enforcement does little to protect a person who has been stalked, abused ot threatened when a restaining order is put in effect.I am againist most types of violence, but honestly not personally knowing her situation,I can't say what I would do if I was her.1 has to remember before owning a firearm to get expert lessons in use and saftey.Als that someone else may use the weapon on you if not fully prepared for situation.Like if shooting is only aswer to protect your life then attempt to wound to where perpatrator is harmless to hurt you.Good subject to debate, but not knowing full situation I say what I think, not what I know to be fact. If we could talkthings out and have more anger management classes enforced etc.,but that's not our real world unfortunatly.
