Smoking is very unpopular in the United States. Restaurants have separate smoking and nonsmoking sections. Public and private buildings may ban smoking except in designated areas. Some people do not allow smoking in their homes and will ask you to go outside if you want to have a cigarette. Never smoke anywhere without asking permission from everyone present.

________________

Some of that is situational at the state & local levels. Even from county to county, smoking regs vary. Many "pub" only establishments allow smokng, except in my town. In that case, I do my drinking at another town. A cig goes with a drink... thumbs up

I like these ones...

-The sauna is a venerated Finnish tradition. Business discussions may be held in a sauna, or a business lunch may be preceded or followed by a sauna.
-All Finns sauna naked. You do not have to sauna naked, but it is considered strange not to. You may wrap a towel around yourself or wear a bathing suit.

thumbs up laugh

If you fart in public, look nobody in the eye. Pretend, like everybody else around you that it didn't occur. Wait 10 - 15 seconds, then make an even paced exit...looking nobody in the eyes.professor

Sure there is plenty, but because you live here you take it for granted.
There is the personal space when you talk to someone; looking them in the eye when shaking hands, which btw is a total no no in Asian culture. Certain subjects which are to be avoided in general if possible politcs, religion, income.

That's just the way it is. I see no reason for people to be embarrassed about their bodies or have the hangups they do about nudity. wink

The Irish are interested in people and place great value on the individual. They are naturally courteous, quick-witted and will go out of their way to welcome visitors to their country. Don't rush the Irish. Although they work very hard, the Irish are dedicated to a less stressful lifestyle that allows time for friends and family, a visit to the pub, a cup of tea, or just a bit of a chat on the corner. Families are closely-knit and very important to the Irish.

The Irish are not very physically demonstrative and are not comfortable with public displays of affection.
The Irish are uncomfortable with loud, aggressive, and arrogant behavior. (dunno bout that one, i know alot of loud aggressive peoplelaugh laugh )
A "Reverse V for victory" gesture is considered obscene.
