not against humor itself... but against the minds that foresee the funny even in disaster.
if you only knew.. the groups that i have encountered in my life... and how many times i have been close to death. my witt has saved me many times over... as non intellectual as it may seem. there is order behind the chaos
again as i said we should not really jump so quick about discrimination as a human on Earth the minute we learn speech is the minute we verbally express discrimination against something...
I think i discriminated my hiney first... Ewwwww i made poo... get it of me its nasty.
Riya, I have seen it as well as Ship, especially where I live and where I grew up. Women have been some of the worst, but also in that same aspect, women have been some of the best about it as well.
I t amazes me , you know. Women are supposed to be sensitive beings. There are always all kinds of people both men and women .. but this quite surprised me.
Maybe , as Ship said i am lucky to have good people around me.
It is there in your country as well, look at your caste system. Look at the arranged marriages, the fact that they are looking for a certain caste for prosperity. Yeah I know that those are going by the wayside there, but it is still around.
Discrimination will always feed off of hate and misunderstanding.
uhoh . . i mean the caste and religion discrimination is rampant here and i feel terrible being a part of it , passively following it and not being able to do much ... as people are beyond logic.
Discrimination .. includes race , religion everything. Previously i was being myopic .. you made me see the bigger picture.
I did .. you know i was thinking .. that a simple word can have so many meanings all causing distress in real life. We see what we know and fail at times to envision the things beyond personal experience but which are real as well.
Thats okay, Riya. We know it is rampant everywhere, that no matter where we live we cannot escape it. Nor can we change the world as a whole, but you can change it one person at a time. Because people in a group are sheep.
But then again who is to say ours is the right view either.
Discrimination works both ways. Sometimes the people who shout the loudest about discrimination, labelling and generalizations do it themselves, openly. They just cannot see it.
I coach soccer (fotbol to many of you others) here in the States. Usually it is men's or college age club programs that I am working with. In the mid 90s, I had been coaching a Junior College team for two seasons......and it was a good side.
We have Disney in the area and student/athletes from all over the world come here to work at Disney and go to school. That now sets the stage for the story.
My 3rd year, I have 125 trying out for a team of 25. I also have 19 returning players. So really it is 106 trying out for 6 openings on the team. One of the new players trying out was 'openly gay' and he was also black. He was also all-state and a excellent player.
Came time for the final team cut. And I selected him to make the team.
After the list was posted. I had the captian, co-captian and another player come to me and said "Coach don't you know what you have done? Whom you have selected?"
I said yes, I knew. Also said that this player was going to play a key role in thier teams success this year as player. That I select players on how they play and what they will do on the field to improve the team. Not on whom or what they are.
None on the team every said anything to me again on the subject. The team was undefeated state champions that season. He played a key role in starting most the matches and provided speed in our defense that had been lacking the season prior. He was a key piece to that season's success.
Moral of the story is this. If you are in a leadership position and you let race, religion, color effect your decisions. You will miss excellent talent that will improve your group/team/effort. I also had 5 Islamic players on the side.
If you are not trying to build a organization with diversity as a key element. Then you already have the competitor that embraces it, have a competitive edge on you.
