Everyone has a right to be happy!

What is happiness? "Happiness results from the possession or attainment of what one considers good."

So ones that goal is attained we no longer strive?

Happiness died when the word "want", entered the language. As long as we want something, we can never be content.

Happiness is a complex subject to discuss but I like the idea of trying; I feel that it has to do more with what we need than what we want. When we have that we are happy, and it is a process rather than and end. Every day we make an effort to be happy and to make others happy.wine

I don't know that everyone has a right to be happy. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness. I've always thought the idea of being "content" was a more appropriate goal. That I achieve part of the time. Happiness is too fleeting.

Hope I don't wreck your thread....I'm sure some people attain a state of happiness.

Being content is safer than being happy, it's feeling less or controlling a more powerful emotion which I have to agree is volatile just as any other powerful emtion.

Oh no. Content is a perfect state. My definition of life is constant straggle between "good" and "bad". If you are perfectly balanced you are at peace.

In my view we're always in a state of flux....always changing. We only gain equilibrium to lose it. Such is the nature of the beast.

For me, even being content can be a challenge...it's more of a "range" on a spectrum.

Damn...this is getting heady ~~~

To be content you must be happy. To be happy you must know that it is real and there to stay; and just to simplify all this I feel that love, affection, companionship, and progress in healthy doses is what it's about.

Aristotle, Kant, etc, etc...

They all say the same thing in very complicated ways.

Full happiness (or good as they call it) is not something to attain rather a state of being content with our own being.

Maybe they were full of it. Maybe they knew something we don't.

IMHO contentment & happiness do necessiarly go hand in hand. one can be happy, but not content & vice versa

i personally believe if you have peace of heart & mind with your faith, then that is all you need.

not to seem cliche but happiness is not the destination it's the journey...my theory is life is too short to waste time being unhappy, just enjoy it and let little things go on by...

Happiness IS the most important thing IMO (regarding 'feelings' anyway)

All the other feelings are connected too it.. and effected BY it.

As far as I am concerned.. you make your OWN happiness... no one person MAKES you feel happy (or sad.. or angry or whatever)... You ALLOW that person to make you feel a *Feeling*

You can't blame someone else is you don't feel happy.. it's up to YOU whether you are happy or not.

IMO its regardless of what you have or don't have. You can be the poorest person in the world and still be the happiest.

It's what YOU make it.

I once read that happiness is the art of making a bouquet of the flowers within reach.

I think that once the main goal is attained, we set a new goal, then another and so on....at least that is how it has worked for me..dunno
