I would appreciate some ideas

A very nice friend in uk has given me some $$ cos she knows I really need a holiday - the thing is I am tired of being on my own and would prefer not to go away and spend a weeks holiday on my own - thus am looking for ideas for relatively low cost (circa less than NZ$1000) break of about a week where might be around other people. In the past have done tours and things, but this could be expensive and also am pretty tired, really want a relaxing hol without constant touring...might be tall order, but ideas appreciated smile

Cheers
cheers

What a lovely friend..How nice.

I can't help you with holiday destinations as I am currently investigating that side of things myself and the areas that interest me are around where you live for memory.. so that wouldn't be any good for you! lol

I am excited for you. That is such a nice gesture.

Yep was a really nice gesture, she is a really good friend.

She knows I haven't had a holiday in years and desperately need a break before I burn out- she wants to make sure I get one before i decide about staying here or returning to uk.

Course I don't actually mind going away in NZ if there is somewhere nice and relaxing - for instance I have never been to Coromandel yet - I just need to find right place and not be isolated on own.

the only problem with the deals and cruises you speak of is that they're all twin share . . . you can pay a single supplament but that almost doubles the cost . .

and someone was saying something about lots of sinlge men on cruiseboats . . . mmmm . . . i'd love to know which one hes talking about . . single men rarely go on cruises . . .

if you dont mind hooking up with someone you dont know very well there are websites for finding travel partners.

good luck bella . . i have the same problem as you and altho i dont mind travelling alone it does get a little lonely and expensive at times.

you could try going to an out of the way backpackers for a while . . somewhere by a beach on the coromadel . . . if you stay around long enough you usually meet other people.

there used to be a really good backpackers on great barrier island. cant remeber the name of it now but i'm sure you'll find it on google. great barrier is beautiful and a cool place to chill out for a while.

good luck and have fun

That's right what you say about the special deals - there is always a huge subsidy for being on your own

Could do with a travel companion...so who wants a holiday? LOL

Don't normally mind travelling on my own but have been spending too much time on own lately...really want some company if going on holiday, it does get lonely otherwise

I googled Great Barrier Island - it looks beautifully chill and relaxing. Looks a neat place to go...if had some people to hang out with...

Cheers

Apologies I don't think that is written correctly. I think I lost the plot on my joke.

And unfortunately can't recall and delete post.

Apologies if offence caused.

Lol Harry...you are such a sweetie... thumbs up You would be just an awesome uncle too..

Wendy... i was thinking what about a NZ Experience trip or a Contiki trip? One where you go with people and get to do things etc. Not sure if you are in the right age bracket but worth finding out. Geared up especially for people like yourself on their own.

Did think of a small group tour - not against idea, though not greatly keen on always being on move - just for once, cos that is what I always do

Anyways - I have done Contiki tours in the past...I am getting a bit past it now sigh which is a bit sad at only 34 but honestly they are exhausting as holidays go with late night drinking parties and 6 am starts, and lots of loud 18 yr old louts - nope, not for me...

There are other small group hols where people travelling alone are catered for...but not as yet I have found in my price range...

Would be nice to explore Coromandel or other areas northward that have never been to at some point. Would love to go to Waiheke or Great Barrier Islands for a break.
