living in your country? Our television is overloaded with programs about people, who want to emigrate into other countries, who seem to be really happy to leave. Are you still happy to live there, wherever you are at the moment?

I am satisfied not living in my own country .... Now I`m living in another country! and love it.

Long term plan is to not live here forever .. but, like Oslo, to have another place, in a warmer climate, to escape to now and again, or to settle in later on.

I lived and was born in Yorkshire, England. I lived there till i was 22, then i came to live here in sunny Malta which i really liked but after 5 yrs of living here i kinda got an itch to go back to England but i kept putting it to the back of my mind. Eventually it started to get to me and after living in Malta for 7 yrs I decided that i needed to go back to England to try to get to the bottom of my unsettlement. I stayed there 2 yrs near my father and decided i needed to go back to Malta again to be near my mother and brother. Now i have been back in malta since April and i now feel happy and settled here.....but i needed to go back to England to get it out of my system once and for all (i hope you can understand my rambeling).

Although after saying all of that i think its not so much the country that you live in, but what there is on offer in that country. As in England i only had my father (no matter how much i love him), where as here in Malta i have my mother, brother and boyfriend.
I do miss the lovely English countryside though.....but you cant have everything!!

The nicest country I know is the one inside of me. My internal landscape is to die for. How many times I have to say it,s what.s inside that counts.Eg;some people live in a geographical paradise but have a crap world view inside. I got lucky I suppose,it,s beautiful in and out. I know what you mean..my best friend is a very attractive woman who keeps 'moving on' - she always hopes that a new location in a better house will make her happy......but I fear that she'll never be happy until she meets 'Mr Right' and she's met so many 'Mr Wrongs' that she probably wouldn't recognise the real Mr Right if he was pouring her a glass of wine right under her nose!

And myself? I'd not dare mess up a beautiful friendship by spoiling it all by lancing that illusion - right?

dunno confused cool

I am happy here in Switzerland/Zürich.

I was born in Scotland in a little scottish village where on every street corners you had hoodlums playing the bagpipes asking for money. When the men walked past, all of the women whistled at them and shouted, "Wits up yer kilt son?"

The land was governed by a nasty landlord who barreled whisky and sold it to the japanese. We never got a sqifter.

At the weekends, when we went to the movies to watch, "Angus McDuff Raids the Cash-n-Carry", we were blared from the next door dance hall having a Ceilidh.

Even going to restaurants was a crime, they always served us popodoms and curried haggis. Talk about a ubiquitous kitchen.

So, now I have landed myself here in Zürich, I have been here for 16 years. So far so good.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

p.s. if you need help with the translation. I would suggest getting a Scottish-English translator.

Ayeeeee lassies!

in all my 30 years I always lived here where I stand (rather sitting now).

Have done loads of travelling, mainly work matters and little holiday. I have considered going abroad several times, but I guess I'm too much stuck to my own things, be it the place I live, the friends I have (whether I meet them regularly or not). I'm quite territorial I suppose.

Now I'm settling here forever, for after all, wherever I may roam and go to, there'll always be something to get sick of in the end, be it weather, long distances, the lifestyle.....

I only used to dread one thing, the need for going abroad due to the ever decreasing job opportunities in my specilised field. But nowadays, despite committed with high bills to pay and the lot, I don't even let a job be my threat for leaving homeland.

I'd rather change my job, start afresh, but never change country.

I learned to value things, situations and places. Better the devil I know, I'd leave the beautiful places I know about, scattered over the rest of the world for planning a holiday wink
