Rickster: I agree. That’s why I think it’s a very good idea to research their threads. Look for any unusual patterns in their response to other members. This way, you will have a glimpse of who these people are. It takes time to know someone.

If some one researched my threads they would find a mix as it depends on how i am feeling at the time. My views don't changed but how i portray them does. Mostly light hearted sometimes serious. I have a sharp tongue in real life but its easier to control on here as i have to think before i type i guess this could be true of many people.

My first forum post.

People don't just open up immediately, do they? Even on a keyboard in the comfort of home. Is it night, they have put their child to sleep, and they are aware of being alone? Is it sunny and they are staring out the window over the snowy rooftops, as I am at the moment?

People are full of many aspects, sometimes these are gradually revealed, and sometimes they sort of burst open, like sun through clouds. Some need to rain sometimes. Others lash out, because they feel angry at something and an unknown forum line grabs them the wrong way. How well do we know anybody from a series of posts? Haven't we so much complexity in ourselves, even conflict, that there is variance in what we will ourselves say from one mood to the next, from one thought to one perception?

Forums let us be direct, but taken out of the dimensions of gesture, expression, situation...out of the interpersonal context, I wouldn't say that you have found your way to a true understanding of that person, or that they have shown their colors. I wouldn't be so confident that what we know about somebody's original self, Riya. It's nice that you don't lean toward like or dislike. We're traveling along the waves of thought of someone, and I think we have little clue how each of these others is interpersonally.

Maybe it's good to learn the range of people...and if you get to know them...then you can say something of their norms, where most people function all day long?
riyablossom: It is interesting to see how some peoples minds function. To me its a huge cultural shift i see ... nice and interesting. As we continue to read their posts .. gradually people begin to be their original self which might not be what we initially perceived. Its true .

But with me it doesnt get to the point of likes or dislike .. if someone turns a 180 degrees in to attack or hate mode, a little efforts to clarify .. doesnt work, i am off. Wont address their presence or response.

I usually am reserved and slow in judging ermm rather dont really like to. Not usually drawn towards anyone, so its relatively easy to feel the synergy and spark when there is one !!!

Good to see you around.

Thats a great post !!! thumbs up

True what we see about people is a part of them ... sometimes superficial , sometimes intricate and deep .. but not really worth the final say or opinion .. theres more that we dont get to see or know ...

Welcome to the Forums !!!!!

Jan1305: Yes Manolito you're right, I didn't word that second paragraph very clearly. I observe for a while and I'm feeling that perhaps somebody is not the person I thought they were, then one post may confirm it for me. I continue to observe, to give the benefit of the doubt, but disappointingly nine times out of ten I do not change my opinion.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that some people portray themselves as very different to the reality and in time the lie can be seen. I am what you read and what you see, it's a waste of time and effort to pretend otherwise so I, perhaps naively, expect others to be the same.

please explain in more detail you have a valid point but surely we all need to air our views after all we are all alone on here and love the banter
