She's the only one in the Royal Family I like, so I wanted to wish her a Happy Birthday. Way to go, Your Majesty. Keep up the good work. You're a rose in a bed of thorns! I'll have a Guiness to toast your 80th!

Oh come onnnnnn They all have their indearing little natures. Like when Prince Phillip was first introduced to Clive James, "Oh ... An Australian ... AND a journalist ..." and then Phil the Greek turned away.

But one thing about Queen Liz, She kept a Commonwealth together as much as anyone could in the post WW11 nationalization happy former British Empire. The Commonwelth Games still happen today. In 1999 Australia, long overdue to become a Republic chose by popular vote to retain the Queen as Head of State. The reason was not that they didn't feel that Australia should become a Republic. Australians just didn't trust their conservative Prime Minister. John Howard had forced the only Republic model as one which made the President a lame duck bridge and building opener with all the power of the Queen invested in the Prime Minister.

And I am a Republican and ethnic Irishman.
