shipoker55: Protecting ones own poulation, may be considered selfish to you.

I am simply saying that we produce enough rice for Americans. But we sell it to the highest bidder in the world economy...then ration it to oselves. This seems pretty lame.

And yes, I could care less about the world, if we ignore our own people. Charity begins at home, my friend!

As far as the poor Haitians....maybe, just maybe, if the politicians would give the money to the people that is sent there by other countries( U.S. included) instead of to off shore accounts, there would be plenty of food for their people

It has nothing got to do with how much rice each country produces, It is a shortage worldwide hence rationing.
Will you go hungry without rice? Will people die of starvation in the US because of rationing?
If so then I will be first to organize food-aid for the US.

The Haitian politics are a mess due in no small part to how it has been treated by the US!
(again not the OP)

I don't know you...but I doubt you would lift a finger to help the u.s. if they needed it!

What did you do during the hurricanes in the U.S.....the Wild fires in the U.S. 9-11 bombing??? I guess you headed up a major enterprise to help us then!!

America has been there for you people throughout our brief history...but when we needed help...where were you?? No major airlifts into Louisianna, No foreign aid to the victims of 9-11. Maybe some firefighters for the westcoast range fires, I'm not sure.

So, when you talk about how badly we treated the Haitians...remember that a lot of their problems are their own doing. Not the people....but the leaders

AND to get back to the original idea of this post, I am saying that a country that can spend billions on a war...should be able to buy enough rice to feed it's people!! That was the jist of this post!!

But people like to turn it around as an opportunity to bash the U.S.frustrated

There was EU help offered and turned down by the US government!

Why do you keep changing the subject?

Your OP was about Rice rationing. Extremely distasteful and insensitive.

The Irish people are renowned worldwide, (except in your neck of the woods aparantly), for being the most charitable country in the world. We give to every disaster, cause and need we are asked to give to and we have always done this.

BTW you are comming across here as someone who doesn't keep up very well with world affairs..........

I am patiently answering the questions you have asked outside of the OP.

You asked what did other countries do for the US and I am supplying the answers.

Hurricane Katrina: $854 million in aid offered.

A large portion of the $854 million in aid offered went uncollected, including over $400 million in oil.

Actually...Sweden is the most chaitable country in the world. But let's get back to the rice rationing in a country that can afford 10 billion dollars a month to fund a war...but is beginning to ration food

You can google aid to America and see just how much aid has been offered America during every crisis.
I previously said if there are people going to starve in America because of food rationing I will most certainly start something to see that our government and the people in Ireland will offer aid as it always has been in past crisis in the US.

Obviously the irony is lost on you. How about an apology for the OP now as you have the facts?
