I am not sure what can be done about the rice but if their rice is gone and America can still produce alot of rice why would there not be enough for everyone.
I have been taking a look at the reasons behind the rice rationing and it seems there have been warnings about rice shortages from at least 2005. The combinanation of Drought, and less rice being grown in China and some other countries has been leading to this for some time.
I also came across another interesting point, It seems that imports of rice from the US have been banned in Europe and new Zeland (Possibly more countries) following the discovery of illegal GE strains of rice that are not allowed for human consumption.
Ironic that you should be complaining about rice rationing!
Glad I don't drink Budweiser beer. (Has been using these strains)

yes ....we Americans are indeed responsible for all that is bad in the world. I, will take full responsibility for all that my goverment has done. So you can sleep better tonight.
Conrad73: You are meaning Fascist when you're talking Capitalist! The world has never seen Capitalism, but always some Mixed Economies, mostly Statist in Form.!!!!!!!!!!! The Economy is way to important to be left at the Mercy of Politicians. There ought to be a Separation of The State and the Economy . The State only stepping in if a Crime has been commited. To treat Productive Citizens like Criminals is a Frigging Travesty
Oh yeah,by the way,War is NOT in the Interest of True Capitalism. Someone has given you the wrong Books to read
Okay, sorry. Capitalism doe not exist. Just like pure Communism....It's all just a romantic idea on paper. Either way, all you did was confirm what I stated with a touch of the spice and seasoning.
And no, nobody has given me the wrong books to read, somebody has given you the wrong eyes to perceive or see through the gentle appetizer/teaser that I put up there.

patrickthomas: What nonsense! Looks like there is no point in trying to have an intelligent debate with you, Goodnight.
you don't want a conversation, just an opportunity to bash the U.S.A. Otherwise you would have seen this was about war and rice not who outgives the other!!
you bring up a good issue about food supply. Living here in Florida, I see oranges, grapefruit and tangerines laying all over the ground, wasting. But then I go to the supermarkets and see oranges from California,. grapefruit from Costa Rica and tangerines from Gualamala.

It is such a shame to see all the fruit and veggies rotting away on the ground. I see it often. It could at least be picked up and taken to the food banks and given to the hungry.
All those foreign fruits and veggies when what we grow here will do just fine... all in the name of FREE TRADE!!! Those college boys who went to school and majored in Economics... sit and dream up all of this stuff. I think we should go back to the old way. Grow and buy locally. I do, in season. I grow what I can use, feed many others with it for free! Get what I don't grow, from my neighbors down the street. The excess goes to the Farmers Market in the next town.
patrickthomas: The CAP is not as simple as merely keeping food prices high, it also has to do with overproduction of food which is too costly to store and to allow imports of foods from countries outside the EU.
The OP is about Rice rationing. The people in Haiti have suffered since the first settlers almost wiped out the indigenous population with disease. The United States, have repeatedly interfered in Haitian politics since the country's founding.
I will quite happily not eat rice at all until the situation stabilizes itself. In fact I did not buy rice yesterday in the supermarket because of this.
I find it nothing less than nauseating that anyone could take suck a selfish view of the rice shortage.
I need to jumb in some. This most recent Hatian issue was when someday 100s or other days 1000s of Haitian were getting into old wooden boats, filling them to the max, and trying to make a crossing to our shore. Literally 100s were dieing in attempting to make the crossing.
The US could have deployed a Naval flotilla and intercept them near our shores and sent them back....making this crossing a second deadly time. Or we could deploy near the Island and intercept them there. That is what did and do today even.
The reason they made the crossing was internal problems within country. Realizing that the only recourse is to act within the country. Some was military and police operations....but most was judicial and social services programs were done inside Hati.
So while rice is a main food stable of Hati. The issues within Hati were causing the problems there and here. I am glad you held off the rice and some poor 3rd world person was fed today. But the bigger issues of such mass human movement, that few seldom see these days are bigger than a box of rice.
The other time that the US deployed into Hati. Was when they were near to losing thier country to some very nasty people.....that promoted such things human sacrifice for religious ceremonies.
So again, while the rice you did not buy might save one person for one day time. These are bigger issues that you tend to avoid here and then paint the US as the bad guy in regard to Hati. We export a lot food all around the world.....wish a figure? 2007 US Agri exports $810b USD a little more than a box of rice.
shipoker55: The greatest and most powerful nation in the world(my opinion only), is now rationing rice. How can anyone still deny we are in a recession! Of course, the Republicans can and do deny anything. How sad, we can fund a war at 10 billion a month...but have to ration a staple like rice to fund it!!
Rice is high in carbs.... it's best to ration it. Obama would.
