The problem is you know nobody else in this area and Hotels average $208.00 a night!

I'd still go...use the youth hostels instead of hotels...make the trip interesting...there are also camp grounds...and if you look in the right places and ahead of time, you can get pretty good deals on hotels...LOL

I think that you should go... anyone who has ever shared a story with me about themselves travelling alone.... always seems to have met wonderful people along the way.
You also have a few days left... maybe you can talk with the person and work things out. Sometimes people need time to cool off and think about things and if they are not willing to do this then maybe they might have a friend who is willing to let you stay. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Take the trip and if you ain't got squat...then squat. I did it plenty when I was there, beaches and the likes. Just bring a tent and hit the gas stops with the showers....
