I am struggling A LOT with it. It is about Language barriers and how everyone speaks their language differently... Different slangs/terms etc. How we get to talk in the different ways and forms we do.
I don't know if this makes sense to anyone but if you have any input or views on this please let me know.
I've come up with a lot but it just still isn't long enough.
I was going to say that your subject matter seems a little broad. Way too much subject matter. I had a bit of a language barrier to cross when I moved from Michigan to Kentucky 2-1/2 years ago. They tended to draw out their words and run them together. I also thought I would have a bit of the southern accent once I got accustom to the differences, but alas, I am still a yankee...
This probably won't be of any use, but what helps me to understand people when they speak is to listen how they put a sentence together, so even if they are using slang terminology I can pretty much get the meaning of what they are saying..
Most lauguage slangs, phrases and isms, stem from a culture who wishes to differentiate itself differantly for one reason or another.... some words and phrases come out of the drug culture in an effort to disguise the meanings and prevent easy understanding,,,, Then there is the invention of words to use in an effort to sound more tuned in and cool.... Foreign phrases and words become in style and are adapted to the language...... Then there are phrases which are sometimes misinterpreted, misunderstood, or sounded out differantly that can also take on their own meanings.... Last but not least there are young people who disguise language to prevent their parents from understanding what they are up to.....lord forbid!.... their word and phrases can also become incorporated into the language

Well not sure how much help I will be but some languages are completely different from the way English is, for example Hebrew is spoke different to a man than it is to a woman. Spanish is spoken a little different depending on what country it is originating from. Many Countries have several dialects just like we do even though many of us do not see this our selves. There was a African man in who took a course with me in the military, and according to his paperwork he spoke nine languages, but after talking to him he explained that he only really spoke English and his native tongue, but the way the US saw it each of the eight dialects his country had was a different language. American English is said to be the hardest to learn because of the different dialects and all the slang we add in, example “dog” can mean the animal, my friend, or even you’re dirty. Anyway hope that helps at least a little.

Geography and climate affects way of speech a lot too. In my country,North side; BlackSea Region it rains a lot and the area is all full of hills, it's very rainy there and that's why people are energic, like goats because of climbing the hills, and because of non stop rains they gather at home and talk a lot so they are talkative and they speak faster
In cold areas the speech tone is sharper In hot places people are lazy and lenghtenes the suffixes of the words Eskimos don't have large 'e' sounds coz they can't open their mouths wide and can't their eyes either It's why they have slanting eyes... Africans have big nostrils to be able to breath easier in very hot wearher, having such nostrils they can have stronger vowels these are the basic reasons for differences in languages and then comes culture due to same reasons again

What about filching bits from here and there.. and rewording it all a bit.. You don't have much time left to get it done do you? ..
people have slangs or colleaugal words about their region, area and what they see there such as Eskimos having more than 4o adjectives attributing snow we don't have more than 3-4 where there's less snow
I really don't have anything to offer, I just read thru the thread and learned a few things myself!!! Especially the input from Epicure. Thanks for the language lesson!
That means the day wasn't a total waste because I learned somthing new!!
Thank you all for your help. I just submitted my final copy of the paper. Whew, one hour to spare. I learned a lot from this assignment. All of your ideas were greatly appreciated and I used some of them too. Thanks again

How about starting with words from different countries that use different words but have the same meaning...eg: loo=toilet...then you could narrow it down to regions within some of those countries...I know here on the rez...they make up there own words...funny words to mean things...and then perhaps about how and why they are misconstrued by others who don't know their meanings....which turns into a barrier!!!!!!!!!!
