CuspofMagic went through a phazer of stunning women, then decided to have a break, sat down and mulled over a glass of wine.

The summer of '68 came to mind - didn't seem that long ago.............

'Oh well' he thought, and poured himself another glass of remembrance.

Cheers! wine

Summer of '68 I was in the Congo at an American High....I was only 13. Kids who were graduating from High School were scared of being drafted to the war in Vietnam. I remember them suddenly turning from happy kids to worried young men............

What year did the war in Vietnam end? About that time, surely?

The most vivid war pic of all time to me was that little Vietnamese girl running screaming with most of her clothes burnt off with agent orange/napalm........... that should be used everywhere for anti-war purposes, and to remind young men and women that war is never something fun and exciting for civilians, let alone combatants.

They should use that pic with the caption:

'You want to fight? This little girl could be your sister!'

smoky: Thank you Conrad, for the reminder. There are too few who still remember this day.

We, in my small household here in CH, the day before yesterday, remembered my Dads brother who`s birthday it was, he would have been 100yrs old - a fighter pilot in the 2nd WW - repeated escapee from POW camps - We simply marveled at the fortitude of men of "those" days. Once of his escapades, written about in books of those times, was that during the european winter to swim thru viaducts of freezing water deep in a dungeon to tunnel thru rock walls to escape to freedom, and to continue the Freedom Fight.

I think that the men who endured those two wars were Men Amongst Men.

My own father fought in the trenches in France during the 1st WW. It left him a hardened person. His family (possibly) suffered thru his patriotism. No man can be blamed for fighting, in those days, for the freedom that was, and still is, taken for granted.

For those with no imagination of what took place during those wars - look for the 4 linked DVD`s entitled "BAND OF BROTHERS".

Hi Smoky,

dont need to i was in one thanks, the less i remeber about it the better.

bowing sad flower Yes, that is what happens. So we just remember those who were there....?

And those who are still perpetuating this stupidness of humanity will one day learn to also remember.....?

In my first war in Biafra, some of us had to watch the long lines of refugees, mostly women and children by the hundreds in lines along jungle roads being roasted alive by napalm dropped by pilots from Britain, Poland, East Germany and Cuba....the stench was so bad we had to abandon our OP's. Those of us who had volunteered to try and help Biafra never could understand what kind of person would deliberately drop napalm on those people....The worst of it was we could not shoot the planes down as whatever artillery we had was defending our one landing strip. Thousands must have been roasted alive. Near the end, grim humour took over and a song of bliss and cheer became , "Biafrans roasting on Napalm fires..."
Lots of photos around of all that but rarely published in the UK, as they had sided with Nigeria...(oil)
