Its raining outside. I'm sitting in the bedroom on the bed with the lappie. I just picked up the paper.

And read the tragic story, of a father and his two sons who drownded near Bega whilst fishingsad flower

It reads;

Their dream ended on Tuesday evening in the rough seas off Tathra wharf when the popular 28 year old dived into the ocean to try and save his beloved sons, four year old Riley and 15 month old Travis.

The boys were fishing with their Dad, a keen angler, like they did three times each week after he finished work as a butcher shop in Bega.

It was about 8pm and Riley was looking after his little brother, who was in a pram up against a small safety ledge along the wharf. Suddenly it toppled over and fell 5m into the water, taking both brothers with it.

Moments after the splash, witnesses heard Mr ONeill , a strong swimmer desperatly crying for help as he dived into the 2m seas to find his boys.

All three perished a father and his two boys. This has really choked me up, the boys mother was at work in Woolworths when she was informed of what had happened.

How do you deal with losing your whole family in one night, in a moment life can change us forever sad flower

I cant even begin to comprehend what this woman/finace/mother is going through and how on earth you get through it.

RIP: Little Riley, Travis and their Dad Shane.bouquet

That's not quite as sad as a story I read earlier this week about a father&mother who along with a male friend over time repeatedly bashed and eventually killed an 18 month old boy.when the hospital examined him,he had untreated broken ribs and they killed him by breaking his neck.apparently welfare workers did have him on the AT RISK register for awhile beforehand.
Even I a mere male was in tears wondering how anyone could do this to a child let alone their own son.
I'm sorry but it brings tears to my eyes even thinking about it.crying crying crying crying

sxc666: Typical Government departments. Thats why I said no more working in government departments frigin useless
If I had known anything about this at the time,I would have taken that child out of there>Even tho I don't have much money I would have tried to give that boy some sort of normal life. Then again I would have ended up in prison for beating those men to death,I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Well I guess on a brighter note, they will spend years being bashed in prison by the inmates for it.They hate anything like this being done to kids.

Yes what has become of child protection, to many files to deal with and not enough staff, been involved with this myself, thought about foster care again, have the room. I know they need foster parents desperately and you can be single and still do it. This thread has helped remind me how much, we are needed for these children, having a foster parent to take them to, when they are in danger could help stop these sort of things happening. And there are just not enough of them around. crying

Unfortunately such things happen all too often.
When I was a kid one of my mates and his friend won one of the highest commendations for bravery in peace time there is.
They were fishing at the wharf in Port Hedland when a kid fell over into the harbour. His Dad jumped straight in to save him as I think most fathers would. They got caught up in underwater cables and Shane and his friend also jumped in. They were able to rescue the son though even though he tried for 20 minutes he was unable to rescue the father.
The divers who retrieved the body said there was no way they would have attempted it without diving gear.
The wharf in Hedland is in a tidal creek with a 7-8 metre tide difference and zero visibility. When they were trying to get the father out the tide was on it's way out and flows so fast you cannot swim against it.
He was 14 at the time.

Sad to say I have also seen families go through the anguish of loosing children as a result of auto mobile accidents when the children that died were the only ones in the vehicle not wearing seatbelts, but the parents were OK because they were strapped in. I regularly see people driving around without their kids restrained and I feel like going up and giving them a smack in the head and saying that if they don't love their kids maybe they should give them to someone else who will.

So much sadness and tragedy in the world, just have to really try and embrace the beauty that is there too, but sometimes hard to see.
