everything was discounted everywhere, either 3 for 2 or 20% up to 50% off, some good bargains, but nowhere was very crowded, maybe just a little early for Christmas shopping?

I know somebody who recently bought some Woolworth stock 'for a laugh' - about a month before Woolworth went into Administration.......... an expensive laugh I'd say. ('penny' shares are very, very often 'penny shares' for a very good reason......).

There was some talk about investors from the tv programme 'The Dragon's Den' might invest and turn Woolies into a supermarket chain......... then the shares might take off - who knows? dunno

I picked this up by googling:

'I quite like Woolies, but basically it's all just a bit crap isn't it?' says one browser, Steve, as he leaves empty-handed. A woman is buying plastic coathangers; another is discussing Advent calendars with a member of staff; and a boy is briefly mesmerised by a musical Santa which dances and plays the saxophone, before his mother drags him away. At the till, two young women lean with their chins in their hands, chatting to the security guard.'

Sad, innit?

Well it is sad to see an institution go, but retailing is a tough business and there's no raison d'etre for businesses that become boring. M&S is another example.
