maybe so ... but you know what ..I think it seems to get a lot harder the older you get to approach someone maybe hence the guy might be trying to get up a bit of dutch courage to come over and ask u and maybe he has went a bit overboard .. but then again maybe not ..I give up just dont know had the same discussion with a girl in work today ..she seem to think that it was so hard to find single guys .. all i could say to her they where about ... but what I did say to her seen her and some of her mates out last weekend and i swear they looked about 23 never mind 33 .. I prob would not have gave them a second look thinking they were too young only I spotted her .. so what do you do there ?????

yes I have... my ex that i was going out with for 6 years.. we used to have these great conversations and i kinda guessed he liked me too... frustratingly though he never made a move, not even after one evening when we talked solidly all night until 7am in the morning.. I had no other option but to ask him out.. was sweet though he got all awkard and embarrased.. first date was cute also.. he went out bought new clothes got his hair cut and washed his car .... and it was the one and only time he was on time for something hug

Hmmm the magic move. Well I never make it. Even if I'm interested in a girl. I'd go talk to her but I'd never make a move. I guess thats just me. But I dont think I like the whole rejection thing. I mean you feel like you've made a fool of yourself. I guess I dont think I'm that attractive. So I dont bother. Which is why I'm still single.

corrib2: yeah, same here when it comes to women,i just shy away, even when i get the "look" i'd leave it to the woman to make the move.,which would usually end up with me going home alone lol

Fair play to ya, Corrib! At least u realise that there are certain looks and signals. Most men seem to fail to work out if someone fancies them or not. Its impossible! Its fairly straightforward but most blokes don't notice it.

And then you get the reverse which fills me with dread. You say good morning to some blokes out of politeness and they are convinced that you're mad for them and call you a tease and horrible names when you reject the request to swap numbers and explain that when you said "how're ya" you were not really begging them to go out with u. Some blokes think that a womans ability to speak or smile proves he's in there.

Eye contact boys.... Look out for it. Not when we glance at you and turn away shuddering as quickly as we can in sheer horror. That's not the moment to say "hey, I saw you looking at me". But when someone fixes your gaze for the longest time, longer than is decent, maybe look u up and down slowly finishing with the fixing on the eyes again, then a little smile, look away a bit coy and wait a short while then look again. And the ensuring that wherever she is in the room, at a table, at the bar you are placed exactly so she can look over at you. The timing of visits to the bathroom or the bar to co-incide with you just coming/going. And all the other ridiculous scenarios which it doesn't take a detective to see through. "My mates have left without me and I don't know where they've gone or how to get home...." when you know full well she's sent them to the pub next door and she lives in the same street.

Christ, do we have to send you all on a course?!

Simple - if she is looking at you like your mother or sister would - all jolly and normal, then don't ask. If she is looking at you like a starving cat that's just noticed a mouse covered in cream - then you don't even need to ask.

Oh GOD I'm exhausted now!

Meanwhile, probably a dozen men will contact me now and tell me its obvious that I like them and that this is a subliminal message direct to them...

Oh God the forthcomin valentine purgatory is obviously getting to me.

Probably because Irish women reject men like other people breathe, unless of course the man is Italian, or black. In that case. they are all too willing to accommodate... but I digress.
