I just watched a Christmas ad on TV and it filled me with despair. Sometimes I'd just like to crawl into bed in early December and come out when it's all over. Am I the only one who feels like a failure as the rest of the world plays happy families?moping

I love the build up and the atmosphere and Christmas day and dinner with my family but if you are single it really does bring it home to you and yes I can understand the lonely feeling, and I would prefer to go back to work the day after Stephens Day!!

I absolutely adore Christmas. Or at least I always did. For last few years have alternated spending Christmas day with friend and her family at her house or mine.

That won't be happening this year though. It will be just me and my boys. They are not into the whole tradition thing no matter how much I have tried to instil it in them.

So it will be a case of dinner and disperse to different rooms.....same as every other day. In fact only the tree in the corner will mark the day as different from any other.

I guess I adore the idea of Christmas now rather than the day itself.

I am the same as you, Wifey. I love the whole season but it does disperse off come the 27th for a great many of us. That said, the whole feeling I get from Christmas makes it all worthwhile for me.

I'm sorry to hear that Keith, but try to think of christmas as being a time to get together with friends and family rather than 'partners'.. I don't know what it will be like this year- But i can tell you i won't be repeating last year- we had only separated a few weeks before but himself insisted we were spending the day as a 'family'. so i went to work- busy and the first person i went to had died during the night :( , and the rest of the day didn't get much better, then i got home and had to cook a christmas dinnerroll eyes and make it pleasant for everyone... ok rant over!!
This year I will probably have to work some of it, but will spend the rest either with family or friends. I expect parts of it will be lonely, but if the kids enjoy it, i will be okay

i do love the atmosphere around it all, the lights, the carol singing, the get togethers, and can't help but get into the spirit of it- if only i can be organised this year- there's a first time for everythinglaugh

My family all live in Dublin, Kildare or Mayo so won't see them Christmas day. Will visit Dad after Christmas though.

Kinda toying with the idea of going away for Christmas and/or New Year. Not necessarily abroad but somewhere nice.

dunno

Maybe we should do a Christmas day meet and bring kids and all. An "alternative family" for the day. LOL

I would love one of those big family Christmases you see on tv. The perfect tree, all the trimmings and all the family, several generations, all in great form gathered around a big table etc etc.

Used to have that kind of Christmas when Mam was alive. Everyone helped with the food and the washing up. Did appreciate it, but not as much as I do now that I can't have that anymore.

OK... enough. Getting maudlin now...need to stop.

I love the commercialism of it all. The tackier the better. Love the music and films too. Miracle on 34th st is one of my all-time favourite films.

I do think some people spend too much on kids toys etc but that's cos they refuse to say no to kids who want everything they see.
