Well I was in pricing a job yesterday nothing usually about that !!! repainting of a service dept.. the price i had given well would keep most people employed for a month or two.. dunno so i have the job ... great like.. but here's the catch .. not to do it now! The girl has 3 kids, alright she married, with them 5+ years .. but on a great salary ..and i got the feeling the recession was been used as and excuse ..to let her go get rid of some of the deadwood dunno

Well my view is yes it'll be hard but will be good for us in the long run. As I said in a previous post, I believe we all need a reality check and to prioritise. It'll make us appreciate what we have a little more

On that note I leave you all to go to my unsafe job rolling on the floor laughing wave

I think so too,

OFF the point but a little related, the pounds are packed to capacity and having to turn away dogs, as so many are being brought in. Latest excuse was they cant afford to feed them with the way things are going!! Eh, what did dogs eat yrs ago before people had money?? Poor dogs, id take one only ive no where to put him. teddybear

I so agree with SG on the reality check bit but also I do think we've benn talked into Depression .... Recession has actually been around 18mths+ and we all still survived. Media just getting onto the bandwagon now .... and what about after 9/11 .... what was that? Dont remember them calling any recession rain dance then but lots of people lost jobs after that but wasn't the same talk about it. Personally suffered 2 redundancies in 2001 and 2004!

Mistakes of the government finally have come to the surface and they have to use recession word to cover it up .... Companies are jumping on the band wagon too as so many have wasted money its easier to let go then completely change their ways.

jmo of course grin peace

While financially its scary (but I have been self employed for over 2yrs so I know what scary is that long) I'm loving it! We can finally stand up for ourselves and demand a better service, quality and price! applause The customer can be right not dismissed! Plus children can start being children again and not spoit brats. Snobs can come down of their high horses and we can all be the true Irish again that the we were once before and loved for! ireland

What are the chances though of politicians being made to pay for their mistakes? No one held them to account at the last general election so they know they can get away with it.

Btw, welcome back emc_eile and cool to hear that you're liking self-employment.

Im having to probably move abroad to get a secretarial job, even though Ive been doing it for over 20 years and am very experienced. Its the emmigration thing all over again. Very sad.

I try to be understanding, but I DO find it a tad annoying when you walk into shops these days, and struggle to find an employee who speaks English. No Irish people seem to have preference these days. Just seems so unfair, somehow..

Trouble is, back in the days of the Celtic Tiger, most "meneal" jobs had to be taken by immigrants, as the natives wouldnt take them - too lowly. Seems we are getting our comeuppance, a little. JMO
