Hmmm...Love will pay the big bills, eh? Never happened where I come from.
robinmarie43: I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't want to live on the verge of extreme poverty. I dont consider myself materialistic, I have the basics without going to extreme. I drive a simple car, I have a house just big enough for my family and I struggle to make ends meet. I make a decent living but support 3 kids on my own. Living in poverty doesn't seem that appealing to me, but that is just me.
I don't need the island in the Carribean but I do need some sense that I can provide the basics to my family. Is that wrong?
No, Your about the only normal one in this thread if you ask me. I guess Mr. Poverty up there will rely on the taxpayer when he runs out of money....

I agree with Thrumyeyes.
What do I tell my pet possum Alex when he wants salmon steak with lemon? That my politics dictate he eat catfood?
And when my 16 yr old wants a car to drive to town-- do I tell him hitch up a wagon to Alex and let Alex pull him into town.., on a diet of ..catfood?
And my little girl wants to go to college and vet school so she can help animals... Do I sent her to Cuba for a free education? (I'm cool with Cuba though).
And when the taxman comes to collect on my home and wildlife refuge - do I convince him to vote Socialist and skip my house?
gentlepaws: There are a few women here that have known me for quite a while, and know that I'm a socialist. I have given away my material life and now live on the verge of extreme poverty.
I am happy and content. I do wonder at times, how many more mails and flowers I would get if I owned an island in the Caribbean ?
It is sad that love so often equates to the type of car, house and bank account that one has.
There's no necessary relationship between being poor and believing in socialism. Plenty of people who believe in socialism are wealthy or well-to-do.
Being poor follows logically from a philosophic belief in (for example) asceticism, not socialism. Socialism calls for a form of egalitarianism not poverty.
Sorry, I hate to hear that you live in such a way. Socialism Is a foolish thought process and will not sustain itself long term. Capitalism is the only way to go. So were I in your area, age group exc. no, you would not be someone I would be with.
QuietStormF: I do not know you.. but speaking for myself.. I can tell you this.. money will never or has never..made anyone happy.. It is the simple things in life truly that makes one happy..
And the ones who think they need great cars, houses and designer clothes to make them happy, will never be happy.. no matter how many "things" they atain..(sp)
It will just take some longer to realize this, than others.. and until they do..
What is that biblical saying? It is much easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven..
I had a wife like that and now she is enjoying her designer rocking chair.LOL
