Well, I don't think that we "have" to understand each other in any situation because for the simple reason: we can't. We are different and who can understand everybody and everything? But, for overcoming such problems there are institutions like respect for somebodies way of life and thinking, tolerance and so on that helps to overcome possible problem.
Like old Latin proverb says: De gustibus non est disputandum.

Fallingman: But do you really? It could just be that your Wednesday musing, happening as it does on a Wednesday, has pre-disposed you to think that you might understand and you have effectively brain washed yourself into comprehension!

Not really, no, I am nearly on Thursday musings and I want to to think what they will be.

So, you could well be right, that I may well be brainwashed into Wednesday, so Thursday will be better, Thursday's musing will be more, well, understandable.

I would like to understudy the person who understands the meaning of these musings but I don't think I could stand over the glide from Wednesday musings into Thursday musings without an understanding of the underlying meaning of the peace that passeth all understanding! professor

When I home, I am unravelling all of that.

I am in a rush.

Be back later.

I see you have some understanding of my premise but understanding the premise is not the same as understanding the premises...an understanding home is not a concept to be toyed with (especially on Thursday)as this might be the rock upon which we founder leading to many misunderstandings. When an understanding exists between two parties, the party of the first part may enter into an understanding in return for some consideration from the party of the second part and (even on Thursdays) this may result in a mutual understanding. Understand? innocent

If they manage it on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays does that make it a "manage a trois"? innocent

Hi Shot

We know what we are talking about.

Have a cup of tea and then come back and read.

You will understand then.

It might be a two tea kind of understanding....

If you are teetotal does that mean your total tea is a greater total than that drunk by non-teetotalers? I understand this at second hand (like the watch) of course!

Ah the English language, and I teach it. To people as a foreign lanuguage. Can you imagine.

No, teetotalers do not make larger totals than non teetotalers, because non teetotalers see double.

So the non teetotalers see more than teetotalers.

I understand this at first hand, after 37 glasses of Chablis.

It works.

I can safely say I have seen double.

I did wake up and think 'how did I get here?'

Then it all dawned on me.

I am sure my German was hopeless that night, so he will not have understood much.

I wonder if he understood that it had dawned on you? He might have jealously wondered when it would dawn on him. But then international understanding only goes so far in the matter of dawn chorus...!

He took me home to my apartment and my bed.

The Dawn Chorus? Oh that morning, my mouth was like the Sahara Desert. Not much singing on there.
