Hi guys.

I have taken the Cinquain poetry format and adapted it to create a new style and fun challenge.

Below is the format to guide you as you write and also an example of a finished piece of work. It's just a bit of fun but I hope you all rise to the challenge. frustrated

THE FORMAT

1 word (the title)
2 words that describe the title
3 words that tell the action
4 words that expresses the feeling
1 word that recalls the title

2 words (adding one word to existing title)
3 words that describe the title
4 words that tell the action
1 word that expresses the feeling
1 word that recalls the title

I think a new style is just waiting to be born - do you have any ideas? I read a piece about Fibonacci poems but it seems so impractical to write a poem where the sequence is 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34 etc...confused

Hi everyone
What inspires me the most is my own life experiences
Sometimes positive and sometimes negative
However we must go on
It is easier said than done
My life has followed a pattern
Which I am trying to break
but that is not so successful
This time of year you are supposed to be in love
well guess what happens to me this time of year
It has been pretty consistent and I do not like it
But we must go on
Love to all
Come to Canada and visit

RE: What inspires you?

Mood is the biggest factor when I write. The weather greatly affects my mood swings which inevitably dictate where my pen will go.
Grey skies, rain and early hours of the morning usually see me writing my darker works.
Sunshine pushes me towards descriptive nature pieces, and reminiscing over old flames tends to see a mixture of erotic and sad writings.

Well, poetry for me is a reaction to my environment, locally and across the world......experiences influence me also...otherwise I try to capture the experience of others, like an actor in character and imagine other lives............

What inspires you?

Just wondering about the different things that inspire people to write poetry. I myself find that some works of art do this for me. I'm also inspired by nature and music. There are times when emotional stress drives me to write, but the inspiration for the writing always comes from somewhere else.

poetically unlicensed....

I have written around 200 submissions on CS and aside from joining in on haiku and limericks, not once was I aware of any particular poetic form or style to use. I know little of prose popriety. For that matter, I know even less of sestina sobriety. Perhaps we might also enjoy creating new styles. I trust that we are mature and might be free to compose with fewer constraints than on 'Poet's Corner'. Not necessarily vulgar, mind you, nor sugar-coated, so as to not offend the sensibilities of the sensitive, just looser....with more abandon. It may be fun creating whacky, zany, impossible, scenarios. I like to laugh and I'm not even wearing a shirt in which to stuff. In parting I'll share my favorite Groucho Marx quote: 'I refuse to belong to any group that would have me as a member'.....Rick

Cinquain Poetry and its definition.

Hi fellow poets. I don't know if you have come across this form of poetry but it is both a challenge and fun. Below is how it works and an example.

Cinquain Poetry Type has five lines.

Line 1: is one word (the title)
Line 2: is two words that describe the title.
Line 3: is three words that tell the action
Line 4: is four words that express the feeling
Line 5: is one word that recalls the title


Example of Cinquain Poetry

Tree
Strong, Tall
Swaying, swinging, sighing
Memories of summer
Oak

American poet Adelaide Crapsey created the cinquain based on the Japanese haiku

I think of the most wonderful words at the most inconvenient moments, in the shower, just before falling asleep or on waking - now how am I supposed to write those ones down? I started writing when I was trying not to fall apart at the beginning of my separation/divorce.. it was cathartic, now it's more fun and expressive only at times.

When I started writing poetry everything rhymed , then I felt my poetry was kinda immature, so I decided my stuff couldn't rhyme anymore . I suppose my stlye is free style , I hardly read other poets work and I don't research styles or techniques , so I just go for it.But I find, that reading novels helps me to write poetry .

I have always thought of myself as a rhymer not a poet and have been reading up on poetry and the different styles lately and it can be scarey so I would love if people could post on here different poetry styles and tell what makes them that way. thanks
