Trembling Fingers

With trembling fingers,
I reach out to you.
Your eyes closed in peace,
Your breathing: my release.

I hold back,
Not wishing to wake you,
My mind fills with memories,
Of our life and our tendencies.

I will miss you my love.
You are my soul.
As I whisper goodbye,
Holding back a deep sigh.

You met him last month,
You said in September.
I think of your story,
Told strong with no worry.

'I love him' you said,
'and you no more'.
'Leave by December,
Don't cry on the ember.'

One final kiss on your cheek,
Is all I desire.
To say goodbye to you dear,
Would fill me with fear.
