Lessons

When I was a boy,
My mom taught me much.
Growing up beside her,
I learned so much.

Speak from your heart,
She would say.
Let your emotions flow,
Don't keep them at bay.

Trust in yourself,
And you will see,
A life of virtue,
Pleasure and glee.

Respect your family,
friends and wife.
And you will find,
True happiness in life.

Forty-nine years,
I've lived by her words.
Living and loving,
And soaring like birds.

Yes, there's been good times,
And yes, there's been bad.
But I have never faultered,
And, have often been glad.

I will never give up,
Finding the one.
A true romantic,
The fault of my mum.

She is there, I can see her,
Alongside the train.
Staring off into space,
In the drizzling rain

She looks in my eyes,
And I can see.
A future of happiness,
Looking at me.

Never give up,
I was told as a child.
Stay on your course,
Relax and stay mild.

Forty-nine years,
Searching the world.
For my heart and true love,
My feelings unfurled.

And here I do find her,
Standing alone.
Watching the people,
No sound from her phone.

Is it you she asks,
As I drown in her eyes.
Yes, it's me I respond,
As she smiles and sighs.

Thanks mom for your lessons.
It's been hard, but I've learned.
It takes time and some patience,
but true love can be earned.
