THE LAST SOLDIER

THE LAST SOLDIER

i stand duty bound
when all my brothers have fallen
i will remain standing, on my guard
for i still hear my ancestors calling

blood covered and knocked to my feet
dont tell me what you think is right
i swore an oath to myself
a true soldier defeated, keeps the fight

those granted with power of rule
couldnt see what i tried to change
they call me a dreamer
but to me, your way of rule is strange

i believe in the people
you believe in all that’s gold
when we reach the gates of heaven
my soul will be judged free, yours sold

i have this burden
to wear around my neck
it’s a unpretty piece of jewellery
to show that i protect

For those dog tags that you wear around your neck,... I for one respect you tremendously - for being willing to protect!! The line about "a true soldier defeated, keeps the fight"... that's PATRIOTISM at it's finest!! It's the stuff that 'freedom' is made of! Without that kind of courage, there would be no gift of freedom to enjoy! Thanks for being one to understand that, and for being one willing to 'Keep the fight"
May the blessings of a merciful God lay heavily and abundantly upon you in times of danger!

thanks swade, good to hear feedback like that.
i maybe irish born but i have been around the world 16 times, fighting for freedom with different armies. it strange how when you have been in war you see the world so clear, i think every politician should go and serve in 1 battle or encounter, wake them up. money, land, power. these were the old things we defeneded. not anymore, now people will fight and belive in freedom and their right to feel SAFE.

thanks swade i will finish this poem.
