In This Very Minute

In this very minute
a lot of things are happening in the world.
People are eating, drinking, making love,
working, they are being hired or fired,
they are writing application letters
or memoirs.
They are being interrogated and tortured,
admitting their crimes committed or not.
They are applying for loans or watching
as their belongings are being repossessed.
They are being cheated on or, the other way around,
they are enjoying an extra minute of happiness.
Some are in hospitals because they have eaten something
and others are in hospitals because they haven't eaten.
Governments are sliding closer and closer to bankruptcy,
and government officials are busy explaining it away.
This minute is so rich you wouldn't believe it.
Millions of people, all doing something.

When I die, well, don't worry,
they will be millions of babies being born
in that very minute
to replace me.
