What Is It We're Missing?

Sometimes
We just don’t get it
In our ambitious daily lives,
We choose not to admit the thing
That’s right in front of our eyes.

We focus only on when, and then,
Not the here, now, and/or why.
So, if it does end up forgotten
We shouldn’t be at all surprised.

It may not be what we expect,
And don’t give it much consideration,
Thinking to hold out for better yet
We’ll move on without hesitation.

Our lives are made up of all the little stuff
Put together we are complete, but
There always seems to be something missing
When we’re alone and feeling empty.

Maybe then we shouldn’t be so quick
To dismiss what’s here and now in our space,
It might be smart to just take a minute
To see what’s in front of our face.
