Summer of deceit

Summer begins and the new relationship is simple bliss
Everything is perfect, every touch and every kiss
The weeks go on and you fall more deeply
Let down your guard for everything feels like it was meant to be

Weeks turn into months and you throw caution to the wind absolutely
Touches become more intense, kisses drive you to insanity
Not a day goes by without feeling missed
You feel special and give your trust, you take the risk

Summer draws to an end, night comes quicker
Phone calls become less, your days grow bleaker
Hot sunny days become cold lonely nights
Peaceful happy days turn into countless stupid fights

Nice conversations become a thing of the past
Arguing is constant and you see the end coming fast
Summer is completely over and winter draws near
You put back up your guard, freeze your heart and dry every tear

You sit and reminisce of the laughter you once shared
How close within your grasp happiness was when you thought they cared
But reality makes your heart freeze as cold as ice
For it was nothing but a Summer of Deceit and your heart will pay the price
But time will heal, winter will numb the pain
And by next summer you'll be ready to melt again
Ready to submit to the disguise; release yourself to believe the lies
Ready for another Summer of Deceit and another round of goodbyes
