Joining the Stars

She stands on the porch
in her thin nightgown.
The last rays of the day
are fading over the horizon.

A soft breeze announces
evening's arrival.
As she sits on the
hard wooden railing.

Two birds fly among the
treetops, heading home.
They circle around each
other, silently playing games.

She sighs a lonely sigh,
full of dreams and futility.
The wind hears her call and
wraps itself around her.

Whipping back her hair,
stinging tears into her eyes.
Sending a shiver through her
arms and legs and her soul.

She finds herself standing
on the wooden railing.
Her arms outstretched,
the wind in her face and hair.

Taunting her with kisses,
daring for her to come.
The moon blinds her as
it spotlights her face.

Stars call her, as the wind does,
to join them in the sky.
All of nature joins in the
plea as it swells behind her.

She is trapped, mind and soul,
in the mortal body.
Which binds her unconditionally
to the earth.

But the wind, moon and the
stars are not of the earth.
And they have just found their lost soul,
And so she flies.............

All I can say is, been there at that edge and I stepped down to the grounding earth and see the moon, stars and wind much differently. Thank you for the sobering write. Celtic

Hi SAS, An excellent write as always. I've almost taken that step, a few times, but that was long ago,In those days when I thought I had no worth. It opens up memories I never turn from. It was all a part of my wacky life. You express this one well. I enjoyed the read.
Have a good day. Catch you later. Your Friend always....MIKE.

Dear SAS

This is so unsurpassingly beautiful - poignancy and longing permeating every superbly written line. A wonderful write!
