Black Is Beautiful

Black is Courageous
Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela
struggled and won their cause
and proved it to all of us

Black is Endurance
Black marathon runners
displaying their stamina
in an outstanding performance

Black is Fast
Black sprinters racing
at speeds that still
remain unsurpassed

Black is Proud
Black Power members
raised their hands
and shouted it aloud

Black is Beautiful
Black people worldwide
dressed up in their finery
looking very colourful

There are other black men who have made the world better, Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, MC Hammer, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Malcolm X, Prince, and black women like Oprah, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Tootie from The Facts of Life.danceline reindeer

My dear JB, with due respect to this excellent and beautiful piece, yes BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL..YET I AM NOT BLACK SO WHAT DOES THIS MAKE ME? Nor half of the world is...While certainly so many of them great ones I adore and love, most specially Mandela and King and Obama, yet this color identification is the very reason they achieved their dreams for its ELIMINATION... There is beauty in every color, WHITE, YELLOW, BROWN AND ALL...Don't get me wrong, I will never be black, but, I too, and so are all those that aren't.. are all BEAUTIFUL STRONG AND POWERFUL...I might be wrong, but this is exactly how I feel...TAKE OUT THE COLOR OF OUR SKINS AND WE ARE ALL THE SAME,,,,THAT IS ALL...

Please forgive me if I have touch any nerves out there..

Jesus would have addressed the world sans color...

Merry Christmas to all...Black or not

Hi loveavalanche, I posted this especially for you. There is no need for you to even think of changing your God-given colour. You are beautiful as you are. Have a superb day!

Hi mcradloff, thank you for your comment, and for expanding on the names of other black people who have made the world a better place. It reminds me of Michael Jackson's song, "Heal The World", part of which states:

"Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race"

Have a pleasant day!

Dear sundayrose, in response to your question, "BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL..YET, I AM NOT BLACK SO WHAT DOES THIS MAKE ME?", if you expect an answer from me, my answer is "what YOU choose to make of yourself". Nowhere in my piece did I state or imply that the qualities I attributed to black people are UNIQUE to them ONLY. I made NO COMPARISON with people of other colours.
Please do not infer that I may have done so.
Here is the position in a deductive logic format:

Premise 1: Black is beautiful
Premise 2: There are other colours beside Black
Conclusion: Other colours are not beautiful

It is obvious that, based on the stated premises which are both true, such a conclusion is invalid.
I am sure that with your knowledge of philosophy, you can see the flaw in such an argument.

Here is a similar argument:
Premise 1: A dog is a four-legged animal
Premise 2: A cat is not a dog
Conclusion: A cat is not a four-legged animal

By the way, from my profile, you can see that I am of East Indian ethnicity. My skin colour may be classified as BROWN, rather than BLACK.

As I said, I posted this piece after reading "Back to black" by loveavalanche who attempted to change her skin colour by bleaching. From what I have read, creams to lighten dark-coloured skins are very popular among some dark-skinned peoples.
On the other hand, some white people attempt to darken their skin colour by sun-tanning which poses a risk of skin cancer.
It sure is a CRAZY world we live in !!!
