The forgotten

I took my phone and rang today
To see how your time goes
A dead tone is all I received
Just why, nobody knows.

Had you just changed your number
Or forgot to charge your phone
Or maybe it was broken
Which is why I got that tone

I went around to try your house
I knocked upon the door
I didn't get an answer
So I tried a few times more

I stood there waiting, hoping
That the door would open wide
And I would see your smiling face
And then we'd go inside

But still I stood there, lost in thought
For what felt like an age
Just pondering on what was wrong
My brain could not engage

I tried to ring some close friends
Hoping they could tell me why
They said they hadn't got a clue
As so much time passed by

I went into the council
And i asked what could be wrong
They told me that the house had been
Lying idle for so long

The last person to live there
passed away so long ago
And they had not seen family
Or anyone they'd know

That's when it really hit me
How much time that there had been
Since I had even rang them
Or just visited the scene

I paid a visit to their plot
To pay my last respect
And found it vastly overgrown
Completely Derelict

It's very easy to forget
With what we all go through
But people falling through the cracks
of life is nothing new.

The moral of the story is that
everybody dies
But don't forget they also live
Try keep alive those ties

Good advice. For time waits for no man. Family and friends are important to keep close.
