I think it's best to reply politely as " a stranger is a friend you don't know"; barring scammers of course! One of the major benefits a site like this offers is the chance to interact with people from all over the world; which you rarely get elsewhere!

I even reply to the scammer/Phishing emails! Mind you i haven't been on the site since Jan, removed my pic some year or so ago because of loons and a woman taking an unhealthy interest in my appearance.
So it's not hardly an issue for me, because if you own a webcam, are friendly and know how to plug it in, it's easy to talk to someone on yahoo/Msn/Skype and see what they look and behave like.
One advantage of that, is you will soon see if they mysteriously aged 15 years or put on 100lbs.
