raytheon1: In this economy where things are so tight money wise, which one wins out...your 'morals or your pocket!' :) Enjoy!
I have found considerable amounts of money on two occasions, and returned them to their rightful owners in both instances.
To see their faces light up when they realised that their month's wages were returned to them was worth far more than what I could have purchased with the cash they lost.

If I knew it was someones wages or the like I would return it. If I just found a $5,000 bale of notes, I honestly don't know.
I found $200 in a customer's car one time, all in cash. I turned it in to the lost and found gal, and never heard another word about it. I have no idea whether the secretary kept the money for herself, or whether she contacted the customer to return the money.

I was at the beach and had rented this three wheel trike thing that you sit reclined. I realized my wallet was gone and my mind went blank to where it could be. After going to the lifeguard and the police station I finally drove home with no liscence or money and wondering what would happen next. So three days went by and I got a call at work..my work number was in the wallet. The person told me they had found it actually standing on end so I can only guess they found it immediately after I lost it. They wanted no reward and it was great except they waited 3 days to contact me! I had to drive a hundred miles back to get it and I did but I always wondered why they did not contact the lifeguard or the police immediately.....maybe they were doing just that,,having a internal conflict about if they should keep it or not. So it did have a adverse effect even though they finally decided to give it back. I would take the responsibility to get it to the person as fast as possible and if not I would write down the amount of money and items in it and turn it in to the police and get a receipt. I like to think that there is still a moral standard out there. that's my story. ;-}
