I personally don't understand why girls don't understand some mens fascination with guns and hunting...i presume they havn't tasted fresh meat. Which is utterly delicious. In NZ, most people that have at least 5 acres, raise what we call 'freezer beasts'. Steers, raised on pure grass. With hay and silage thrown in for winter. Delicious.
As is wild and hunted pig, deer, thar, pheasant, turkey. Fresh meat is delicious, and Im sure there are many women who appreciate a good gunsman. My brother has penned a book on guns, sounds very boring, except I know him for the storyteller he is, it is called "The NZ Hunting Rifle" by james passmore.

Conrad73: yep,the Criminals still have theirs!
Some do but there are criminal elements everywhere, this does not legitimise the ownership of guns. The police have the means to deal with this element and do.

Best is very subjective - best at what? in what field of operation? at what cost? Is commonality of ammo a factor? ease of repair? etc etc etc etc etc etc
And to try and come up with one country - nigh on impossible as various manufacturers have their own specialties.
I actually thought a little about this and checked my weapons room peice by peice quickly - i couldn't actually find more than two weapons from the same country!

Germany and the United States, though my favourite rifle is the Belgian FN FAL L1A1, followed by the Springfield M14. My favourite machinegun is the current German MG3, which is the current incarnation of the old MG42. My favourite pistol is the dear old Colt 1911, though after it has had a bushing job to make it accurate.

You're one of those.
Being a law abiding gun owner, it will be a cold day in hell before I give up my guns.
