The purist in me doesn't quite class intelligence and personality as the same thing.
But, of course you're entirely correct.. and you can tell who is and who isn't stupid within moments, too.

What I experience on a first date determines whether I feel there is a personality there to get to know better.

For me, i look for physical attraction first, then if i see where the characteristics of the person and their ideas of life coincide with mine, then i can start there. This is the most hypocritical matter for a lot of persons that i have met here or on the street. I love the fact that you point out this. The profiles that i have gone through will tell you 95% of the time that personality comes first, only a few that i have seen will admit that they aim for security. and i am of the opinion that it goes for most of that 95%. I think they have a sixth sence that can easily detect security even if it is not written because i believe there are many genuine men on here with all good intentions that writes to them and they just go look at your profile and don't care enough to try and know you. Sad but it's true. the only mails i get here are from scammers.

thank you. and just a nice prsence is not quite it. he must be available and also - there cannot be any hint of a poor or negative attitude toward females - conveyed by being a nice person most likely. I can think of men who have a nice presence but I do not feel a dating type of attraction to them
and I know good looking men who I 'd never date because they're players or married

personality traits that become evident at that point and up to that point. If something doesn't evidence some personality fairly early on I assume he has none...
in addition the ever mysterious "chemistry"
