this has become a fashion now. The result of this can be seen after 10/15 years. Please express your ideas on this issue. This is just for the benefaction of our next generation.
Might be a new thing where you are, but Ive always had dogs as have many countries, Ive also had cats, horses, rabbits, mice, chickens.. etc..
having a dog or any pet is very beneficial, it teaches children how to care for something, all about death (when it dies) the facts of life (I bred rabbits so was good to teach my daughter where babies came from) they help lower blood pressure, and there is nothing nicer when you live alone to come home to have them happily greet you, Mine are great company, plus they are loyal, intelligent, and I feel a lot safer having mine, they can be great guard dogs..
I think all children should have some so of pet and be taught how to look after it properly, and that does not mean keep it chained up outside, or locked in a cage...

What is the point of this poll? Humans have ALWAYS had dogs as pets since the dawn of time. Originally they were used to hunt with and protect. Now they're seen as family members by many.
The only dogs that are the exception, are those horrible little yappy things that the likes of Paris Hilton and co like to keep in their handbags. I just don't see the point of them apart from a stupid hipster fashion statement.

100% I forgot to put it as babysitters. I'm just asking the issue of having dogs as babysitters. We should teach our kids to not only to love animals but also to love all the living beings including trees/plants and vines etc. I really agree with you on that issue. But we are humans and animals are another realm of living beings. When infants grow up so closely with animals what will happen. Keeping company with someone or something has a great impact for a little kid. Comparing with some of the human babysitters, loyal and obedient animals are very much trustworthy and their love is very authentic. But animals are animals , humans are humans. I think human had better keep company with animals by hand distance. I see there are some advantages as well as the disadvantages. Cos though they are more authentic than humans ,all the animals are not intelligent except few. animals need our love, kindness, affection and protection. Cos they are helpless being animals. But how about us.
ParamaSathya: Yes..agree with you Sir. But this new trend is dogs as babysitters ?
They are not babysitters. Responsible people don't leave young children alone with dogs no matter how gentle the dog is. Young children like to pull the ears on a dog or touch them in ways that they don't know they might hurt the dog. The dog will put up with just so much before it gets angry and nips at the child. That's why people don't leave their children with a dog for babysitting. You're misreading the pictures. When a child gets older.....much older.....you can leave it alone in the house. The best thing a child can do is grow up with dogs.

LOL,,,I was reading and where you wrote "nips"" , I thought it was "rips" at the child. but actually children don't know what the dogs boundaries are and just like any other danger, the parents need to be smart enough to keep the kids away from things that will get them in trouble. Guess I better get the glasses for reading again!! LOL. but good point there.

We have very young children in the family. When they come to visit my daughter, who always has two dogs, we never take our eyes off the dogs and children because children don't realize that a dog isn't a game where you hit a hammer into the circle.
Bodeling's picture of his dog Bode is an example of how patient a dog will be but the situation still has to be watched because his grandson might accidentally put a crayon in the dog's eye.
Spiritdragon: They will become more compassionate and understanding of the other beings on planet earth. If you want proof - watch this - but watch the WHOLE thing.
Thanks for sharing this link my friend. This video is a disgrace to the whole mankind. Disgusting. Don't what type of humans they are who passed by the incident. We are worry even of an animals also, when they face to this kind of incidents. But these people who are in this video are not really humans though they have physical human body. Selfish miserable demons they are. What will happen if there is a dollar note ($) on the road ? better to put a another thread for this video my friend. Many things we can discuss on this issue.

It doesn't matter as pets....I am considering about the issue of keeping dogs as babysitters

How about the health issues. Dogs lick all over the baby cos of the love and the baby does the same most of the time. Is this good for little kids' health ?
ParamaSathya: Yes..agree with you Sir. But this new trend is dogs as babysitters ?
Well what will happen is kids will start peeing on trees, wheels, fire hydrants, and then they might hump your leg, fall off the couch as they lick their balls, sniff each others rear ends....

Well, I'm from Africa and all what the dogs in Africa do, is bark. They bark all the time. No reasonable parent would keep a dog in a house with kids who haven't started talking because those children will only learn to bark. Animals and animals. My God!
