one needs only look at how popular language has changed over the years.
In the 60's youth slogans such as "power to the people" were commonplace and everything revolved around wishing the world into a paradise. In any case it was all deeply politicised.

"keep it real".. and our whole popular language revolves around being down to Earth and streetwise - it's blatanly hostile to political idealism.
This says it all about how we've changed/grown up over the years.
