Given that many of the extinct species were exterminated by humans, I think that scientists simply are repairing the work of God.

Scientists just follow their interests, and the funding. Most of them, like me, don't believe in any gods, so they don't see themselves as playing God.
Hence I can't vote for either option. You should have had more options.
