To borrow from Ross Perot (not always a good idea), would you hire any of these people as a manager at your company?

Palin you'd offer the job to right away, and then you'd sweat until she accepted it.

McCain would seem like a decent choice, but wouldn't make or break you either way.

You'd wonder how Obama possibly thought he was qualified, and you'd leave him to be hired by some other company where they fall for people who say all the right things.

And you'd be telling stories about Biden's interview, and making jokes about it, for years.

It has the potential to be a brilliant move - but depends on how they handle it from here. The fact that he kept it under wraps and waited for the last minute was a smooth move. His opponents are now scrambling to dig up dirt and form objections.

I think we are in for a fascinating campaign.

Lorax68: no, actually, there is no history book that has record of that happening. The bible isn't history. it's a story.

THe romans have no record, that anyone has found of a man named jesus of nazareth. there is no foreskin of jesus on display in a church somwhere, though there are still 5 churches around the world that claim to have it, under glass as it were.

THe bible and science just don't mix, because one is based on faith, and one is based on fact, that can be repeatedly proven with an experiment.

I'm not saying people shouldn't believe in something, we all need something to hang onto. I just don't think it should be schools, to teach it.

What I am saying Lomax, is if youth have not been exposed to the debate and the concept of creationism, is later as adults.....they will
still have the childish attitude and immature knowledge of the positions.

But if exposed, they can know make a much more mature and informed
discussion of it...either pro or con.

It is kind of like your example of 300 years go they were drilling holes in people heads to release evil spirits. A few of those patients survived, and the medical community figure they were on to something.
But they did not have the medical knowledge to 'why' the operation was effective in certain cases.

Today, would you have our medical schools not cover the technique of relieving carnial pressure by holes, to patients that have massive head trauma injuries or hemmoraging, because they had the 'why' wrong 300 years ago? No, what you would rather have is a discussion that covers the surgical technigue and explains 'why' to our science and abilities it works.

It is the same here, with creationism being exposed at the high school level. You can then have adult arguement and debate later in life. You say there is no fact to it. There are some pretty solid scienctists that still embrace creationism. When you press creationsim out of our school systems, you also begin to discredit their work and findings. Is that fair?

Proving the existence of God........that if you take a Biblical view...who is an invisible spirit...and is all powerful......is maybe beyond the abilities of man's sciences and abilities. Science most often works with visual observation and recording of those observations. How would one observe, a invisible God? And then be able to make accurate records of a all powerful God? Maybe beyond our abilities to do? Yes?

Beside look at like this, Lomax.......it was Christian friars that invented campange, wine, maybe even beer......but there I have to give the credit to pagan Germans and Norsemen.....and today.....we all better when we sit around a table and enjoy a wine and a beer and have adult conversation on many matters and issues.

I doubt you'd want Ross Perots opinion on these tickets. He's blunt after all and not one to spew talking points.

On Palin he'd probably say something like, "You're kidding me, right?"

And he tried to back out of his second bid after he saw the Dem convention in '96 saying the Dem party had revitalized itself. He never was much for Bush people.

After watching Tom Brokoff on Meet the Depressed, he was interviewing Tim Pawlenty (sp?) Governor of Minnesota. It's amazing how many negative adjectives and adverbs he was able apply to his questions regarding Palin. Maybe that's why the majority of the country has a negative view of newscasters and talking heads on tv. Reagan was able to talk "over" the press and tv and directly to the electorate, we can only hope that McCain and Palin can do the same.

I do not attend church yet I support my children in it and want them to go when they choose. I do it because I want to expose them for the sake of education. I don't believe in creationism yet I think there is a value in teaching it in schools.

The idea is to expose them to all modern-day concepts and philosophies teach them how to think for themselves. You do not have to tell them, "This is the truth and you must believe it." Rather, "This is what many people believe, this is Darwinism....what do YOU think and why?"

Not teaching them is equilivant to banning books.

It's all about context. Since creationism has always failed the scrutiny of the scientific method it doesn't belong anywhere near it. Teach it alongside other religions.

The fact that so many people want it taught as science all these years after Scopes is a searing indictment of how ignorant we have become. It's no wonder we've fallen behind other countries in technology. The sad part is that so much of it is intentional.

thumbs down

I agree with you ttom, I think creationism should be taught in schools to the extent that at the end of a semester of teaching the science of evolution as the class is walking out the door, the teacher should call them back and say, "Oh BTW, there is a group of people who believe that the first man was created by a spirit who took a lump of clay from the ground and fashioned him into his fully evolved form by breathing life into him (though I don't know why a spirit has a need to breathe) and later he realized he forgot something (though I don't know how a spirit powerful enough to create a universe could overlook something like that) and made a woman out of one of the mans ribs (I guess this spirit ran out of clay). That's all folks, enjoy your spring break!"
How absurd!

Do you actually believe the Bibles version of how mankind has come to be in his present form?
If mankind all came from Adam & Eve, how do you explain black people, Asians, white people? How could these 3 races all come from the same 2 parents? Do you think maybe they EVOLVED into the 3 major races on this planet? Oh no that isn't possible because there's no such thing as evolution.

Oh BTW, if schools are required to teach creationism or intelligent design, maybe they should also teach alchemy and astrology so when the students graduate they can discuss these subjects intelligently too.

The irony of all this is that intelligent design IS being taught in schools all over the world. But it's being done by human beings not by spirits. It's being done by biologists who create new strains of corn & soy beans and by dog breeders who create new breeds (did god create a Boston Terrier?) and cattle farmers and it's even being done by everyday people when they select a mate based on certain characteristics such as height, strength eye color etc. It's called selective breeding, which I like to think of as Accelerated Evolution. Evolution is happening every minutes of the day. Every time a woman gives birth, it is proof of the process of evolution.

Sorry about veering off topic.

ttom500: Well CSers. John McCain pull a rabbit of his hat. Timed to take away the post DNC bump expected for Obama and Biden ticket, his VP choice of S. Palin has the media and the net stirring. She is the first woman to run for the Republican VP slot ever. Conservative and pro life. And is a reformer like McCain. So what do you think?

Palin was certainly an unexpected choice for almost everyone.
Do you remember Obama, when he first won the nomination for the Democratic party, when asked who he would choose for his VP running mate, stated there was a panel who would make the considerations for this position? He would wait for them to decide.
Joe Biden was the choice they made.
I am sure that Mc Cains runningmate was chosen for him also.
Someone behind the scenes apparently knows something that we don't know, and believes for whatever reason, that Palin is the one they want in office.

I do not have a problem with reformers. America needs reformation.
I do not know much about this woman at all, but I have listened to her the past couple of days. I also listened to a radio talk show concerning this subject. Listeners from Alaska, male and female called in. All had great things to say about Palin and love what she has done for Alaska. No one bashed her at all. This was appealing to me.
Even the talkshow host, who is an Obama supporter, seemed to be moved by their comments. He made an interesting statement. He said, "Obama says he wants Change. He has based his campaign on change, change, change, then he picks a 35 year vetran from inside the beltway (WashingtonDC). This is NOT Change!"
I must find myself in agreement with this man.

I am in St.Paul, Mn. now. The Republican National Campaign will begin here tomarrow morning, if it is not postphoned due to the hurricane.
I want to hear what the McCain/Palin team has to say. I will be attending Rallys here, Monday and Tuesday.

It is a critical time for America. Our next President will be a very important one. There are many issues on the table. We must weigh very carefully, each candidate and their agendas. We should not be too hasty in making our choice.
