of all the spreads that can be put in toast, this is the one... marmite the original, but c'mere, tesco yeast extract, every bit as good and spreads easier, cheaper too...vegimite, so so, they just havnt got it quite nailed...something to do with the yeast, and australia being a lager nation, yes there is a tie in, marmite is 'yeast extract; a by product of the beer brewing process, and the flavor can be traced back to the beer that came before it...
on crumpets, butter and thick cut marmalade (bit of a 'mar' theme here)... but try marmite 'between the sheets', as we called it; thick sliced white bread, toasted evenly, marge or butter, depending on preferance, MARMITE on that and then sliced white cheddar, something with a bit of kick to it...wop it under the grill till its golden brown and crispy on top, then eat...if the kids see you eating it, tell them its 'sprouts' on toest and that they wouldnt like it...

scriobhneoir: Ah fair enough. Just not my cup of beef tea! It is up there with Cellery and Marzipan in my food hall of shame.
totally agree, vile inedible muck, right up there with cucumber and raddishes.... and doesnt it take more calories to eat it than it dispenses as a food-stuff (i use that term loosely)...
GUZMAN1: The label of Marmite Absynth is written in spanish, but I never saw these bottles. Perhaps in South America, because absynth containing 85% alcohol is forbidden in Spain.
I am naive. It is obvious that the liquor does not exist and that the label is in English mixed with Spanish.
MARMITE is available in tesco and dunnes, cabinosi (my dogs love it) is in aldi and lidl, and you may find it in polish and lithuanian provision shops... MARMITE is not a big spinner here in ireland, but us brits go mental for it, marmite crisps, twiglets, just ask Karn, the lady knows!...
I once had the misfortune to pass by the factory in the UK that makes Marmite, if you think it smells bad in the jar...sweet JeBus...you would need to spray deoderant up your nose for a week to get rid of the vile smell after going past that place.
it was a delicacy at the last house party that I was at,u dip a goldfish 'alive' in the marmite then down it in one go while someone hits you with a chair !
