rohaan: I'm guessing NZ has a long, good growing season, and still not as populated as other regions. I wait until Farmers Market is closing (for the day) and often the vendors are more than willing to lower price and sometimes even give me a few items--(I'm a regular...)
A lot fruit and veg goes to waste here in the growing season and it comes down to who you know to pick up free food, as for buying food the farmer markets and road side stores always have great bargains..

My dad worked from 14 to 74 when he couldnt handle it anymore. Love blueberries, but thought too pricey. Mom talked him into buying a can..what did you work for? When he died, mom pointed it out on the shelf. He kept off eating it because too pricey. Mom said you want it..NO!crying When she died, it was split sitting on the shelf. Along side the can of plums she liked and put off eating cause THEY were too pricey. I didn't eat those either. Sad. Sum up someones life in a can of fruit.
I try to buy what I like. But, some things I feel are over priced. Like melons. Saw Miracle Whip is almost $5 for a jar. I use mayo. Not paying 5 for soybean, sunflower, corn oil salad dressing! I did pay 4.50 for a pound of bacon because my guy wanted BLTS. He is worth any price.teddybear
