The Bible has been re written so many times....even the King James undoubtedly has errors in translation... However, the main meaning is still the same. I like to go from the Living Bible to the King James with the Hebrew/Greek study guide and compare.

Afraid my Hebrew and Greek are weak.
Would be interesting to read less corrupted translations though.

It's not written in Hebrew/Greek. It gives H/G definitions of words. Since the Bible was written in those languages and translated to ours, it makes some things more understandable. (I'm not a Bible Scholar believe me)

Ahhh. OK one of the bibles in the E-Sword software has that built in.
I personaly like the King james version due to the fact that King james had it translated out of a number of people that had to agree on all points of translation . and most of the other translations were out of transcripts that were flawed I E the vaticanis atticas that was found in a trash can with many errors found by two men named westcort and hort. True it was much older than other manuscripts but it was never used by the scribes because of the errors thus it was thrown in the trash. I could go thru all the manuscripts but but it would take a long time . Whatever Bible you like it hast to be illuminated by the word of Spirit of God . that is why in tha tabernacle in the wilderness the shu bread was directly under the lamp . In other words the spirit lighting the bread so it could be seen . Hope this helped

I don't know about "reading", but I prefer the New King James Version because it's the exact right thickness to wedge under my wardrobe to stop it from wobbling over.

Ok think of a rumour that has been told once in your life and that got really out of hand.
Now look at the bible and see a rumour that has been alive for thousands of years.Emperor Constantine dictated at the council in Nicea in 325 AD what you read today in your King James book.
for instance he ruled out reincarnation and he decided christ was gods son there and then. Mostly for political reasons.
In the recent past scriptures have been discovered that have been left out on purpose. The roman church tried to destroy this legacy forever and Im sure the vatican keeps a lot of those scriptures behind locked doors.
Hence the pope is the oldest reigning dictator in our society today. He decides what we can and cannot read.He dictates what you believe. period.
Most translations have there own objectives and most are dodgy to me...

I know that the vatican keeps a lot of other things behind those locked doors also, also that most of the rules and regs of the church were usually made to either keep the populace in tow or to fill someone's pockets. I was a cradle catholic and scared to do anything while growing up...they talk of Jewish guilt...Wow, try Catholic guilt. But that has changed because I realize that the rules were made by man not God. But I still believe...only with a little more knowledge. I won't argue with someone who is a non-believer or try to get them to change. I have friends who are non-believers. I guess we will all either find out in the end or just fade away. Can you agree with that?

Yes I do and I dont really say I'm a non believer or atheist for that matter. To me nature is GOD and its there and I cant deny it.I cant doubt about it. Ive seen people strugglin with faith before they passed away like they had to walk through hell. That's why I call my faith a conviction, cos Im sure. If peter is at the gate or mohammed or whoever thats fine with me.I dont care really...Its a non issue. And if there is no afterlife, think of all the people who have died for a lie and selfish reasons. The reason I told this was to open peoples eyes and let them see a bit of the universal absolute truth to wich we all can agree.

In my opinion thats the only way to peace.
But you know, Rudolfo, if people are died in the wool believers that the Pope or church are always right, they will never change. So, rather than argue, I just read and don't post much. The only reason I posted to this one was because everyone so far had been of the same accord.

I suppose we will get to see "the universal absolute truth" when we die be it some creed or nothing at all.
Someone pointed out to me that believing in a divine power was a good bet. If you win, you win everything; if you lose, you lose nothing.
I'm nothing in the greater scheme of the universe. I believe many things but I know very little for certain. Being ignorant can be a great thing. If I knew all of the answers there would be very little to strive towards.
That philosophy and $2.75 will get me a cup of Coffee in Seattle.

I have laid many doubts at many believers feet and will continue to do so. Its like a sport I cant loose at. Its a win win situation. And its in the nature of the word believer, that he will have to contest his or her beliefs, to get closer to the truth. Dont you think its funny that the current pope is named RATZINGER and he was appointed in the year of the RAT.
Believe me this RAT is gonna sing a song of terrible woe soon.
And the OP asked what version of the bible was easier to read for each individual. He did not ask anything else.

I know I'm takin this thread of topic, but since the political ones are so boring I just do it.
I respect that opinion Bruno and there is a truth in it. But this only counts if it affects only you. And since most religions are well oiled organized machines, in my opinion it can be very harmfull in some ways.
A wise muslim once said recently that faith should be something personal and not tooo public.
I hope you catch my drift.
I dont gamble btw its kinda against my conviction to do so.

pubwrite08: And the OP asked what version of the bible was easier to read for each individual. He did not ask anything else.
He did not indeed. And I will leave this thread alone now, cause I have said my piece. I hope this will inspire more believers to start religious threads again with an open mind. Yes there was a lot of arguments about it,but this is kinda of like a challenge to start open and interesting threads again without bashin too much and keepin things respectfull. As I try to do more these days.

The machines are not about God. There may be believers in the crowd but when the prime concern becomes mammon be it cash, a big building, pride or anything else worldly there is a problem.
I feel that faith is a very personal matter between ones self and the divine power. I identify as being a Christian but can still learn from and accept from other faiths.
I don’t really care for anyone trashing someone for their differences on such matters. That said I have friends that believe anyone who thinks there is any force in the universe greater than Al Gore is a silly mindless buffoon and others that think anyone who does not agree with them 100% on spiritual matters is headed to the big weenie roast. They all have as mush right to believe what they do as you and I do.
I hope YOU catch my drift.
Every day is a gamble. Cards, dice and lotteries are for gamblers that have more dollars than sense.
Greetings, I'm new here, and since I am a Christian, I thought I'd post here for my first time. For general reading and devotions, I use the NIV. Having said that, let me say that I have a ton of study materials near at hand. I have multiple translation bibles, as well as Greek and Hebrew helps. Most of the scripture that I have committed to memory is in the King James. When I witness to others however, I put it in the vernacular. I see no point in speaking to an unbeliever in 16th Century English. At any rate, nice to meet you folks. In Him, gentleshepherd
I have several Bible's, each a little different in translation and purpose. I love the King James version because it is very poetical and beautifully translated from from the best Greek and Aramaic sources. However, because of all the thee's and thou's and whatever, it can be very difficult to understand by the average reader. Because I struggle with ADD, it can and is difficult at times to hold my attention. The Ryrie Study Bible KJV I like because it has a lot of cross referennces, annotations, maps, timeline charts and more. My personal favorite though is The life Recovery Bible. It is the easiest to read by far and I believe the most accurate interpretation of what I believe the original scriptures were trying to communicate. It is very easy to read and understand and that is the whole purpose of the scriptures. Since the Bible is God's revealation of Himself to His Creation, it stands to reason we are meant to understand what it say's. When you read the Bible, whatever version, it compels you to make a choice as to whether you believe what is written or not to believe. Whatever your choice, it is yours to make. Those who read and believe, God will bless. Those who don't believe, God will still love them, but He will leave them alone in their unbelief. He will not force Himself on His creation. A loving parent do'es not force a child to love, it must come naturally and freely.

Welcome to CS! A fellow New Englander I see. I'm a transplant from Rhode Island.
Nice to meet you. I'm originally from Mass. So we are old neighbors. The N.A.S.B. is a nice translation. I used it for a number of years, and keep it on hand. Has anyone ever had a copy of The Thompson Chain Reference Bible? I used that early on, and it was loaded with bible helps. The chain reference system allows one to move through the entire Bible on many given subjects, providing an instant Bible study. It's great. Got to be a bit heavy (physically) for every day use for me, but otherwise it's great.

I used to years ago, but no longer. I've moved so many times, I've lost or had to leave behind a lot.
