guiriman: today is too full .. by orderof the CS council you have to shift the time of your existence .. you can choose between either 1950 or 2050 .. which would you prefer?
I guess some reasons in favour of 1950 might be the lack of traffic and kids could play out on the streets safely .. happy times .. happy days .. hey, just think of the fonze ..
but things generally improve as time progresses .. so I guess that in 50 years things should be better all round .. health care and transport maybe .. and the added excitement of not knowing what the future holds..

2050 .. absolutely! And all the things you mentioned that should make it better to look forward to. No way looking back in the past on how they lived then. It does not apply to me.

I would go back to 1950. The main reason being the new era of music and fashion.

Hehe, I'm a minority. Well I think we're at the brink of some kind of major change; if it does happen by 2050 things might already be a LOT better when it comes to human rights and equality, while the restrictions on women and other things makes 1950 less attractive. It's nice to go back in time on a fictional level, but the reality... hm, maybe not. If things DON'T change soon then I don't think 2050 will happen so hardly anything to worry about

thanks to the people who contributed so far .. there have been some convincing arguments in favour of both years ... the glamour and music of 1950 versus the freshness and potential greater equality of 2050 .. the poll stands fairly even after just a few votes ..

Anno 1950 I haven’t been born yet and I don’t expect to make it to 2050, so I stay where I am.
But after a second thought… in 1950 Leonard Cohen was a young man, and that tempts me toward this year…

Well i think 1950 its a hard choice but i think the less stessful times of the 5o,s would be better than the fast living we have to endure now, even tho my lifestyle isnt fast at all lol.
but in the ways of crime and just every day stresses and our young ones have more to deal with i think that aspect can only get worse.
Life is more uncertain now ,yes we can chat on internet and yes the technology is amazing, i do like that part, but in a sence of well being it was better in the 50,s but if 2050 ended up to be a mix of the easiness of the 50,s and still have the technology in all aspects 2050 would be a good time.

I did forget to add the medical advances by 2050 will be amazing so that is a plus that in the 1950,s didnt have. but the amount of diseases are also growing so again we need a mix of both 1950 and 2050.

I am not so sure about the "improvements"for 2050-but I suppose since I was born even before 1950 I look back with some sentimentality to this time and thats why I would choose 1950.Of course there is progress in technic and healthcare etc.-but there will be new diceases as they always appear over the years and people still will be dying in 2050, as they died in 1950. There will be a lot of new things but still all the new is built on the history and culture of earlier times-so the 1950 will be the base for the improvement of the 2050 happenings.In any case we can't stop time so lets enjoy the moment, lets enjoy the 2009!

Oh most definitely, for me, I`d choose 1950! Life was good then. By 2050 at the rate atomic/nucleur bombs are being dropped in the oceans (Korea did 2 in the last few days)... I don`t hold out much hope of improvements on earth.
The days when the big black telephone thing was hardly used, cars had crank-handles for when the battery was flat, movie houses weren`t rip-offs, motor-bikes leaked oil, a smoke was a smoke, and grass was something you mowed.

I doubt I'll live that long, but it's considered a 'perpetual' (although it has an option for the bank to buy it back at full face value in either 2020 or 2048).
I bought it as a 'cash cow' - in that I bought it very very 'under par' and it therefore pays me a HUGE return in the 'coupon' interest for, hopefully, the rest of my life........ the bond is nolonger such good value as it has gone up from costing 15.5 cents to the euro to now well over 40 cents!
When I die, whoever inherits my estate would be foolish to sell it.

I would choose to exist in 2050 for the mystery of it. The 1950's are viewed like most of the past through rose tinted glasses, excuse the socialism but the richest people usually write history from their perspective.
I had the rare pleasure when I was a teenager of meeting an elderly gentlemen who said that from an ordinary mans perspective the 1930's were better than the 1920's from his perspective as an ordinary working man, but general history records it the other way round. It is all about perspective.

2- people were nicer, apart from a few wars
3- a couple could get married or buy a house, or have kids
when they chose, uncompelled by having to work til they
were nearly 40
4- the politics and governments were less corrupt
5- people grew stuff in their back gardens, kids played in
the streets - in safety
i could go on............
anyone who thinks that the world is suddenly gonna wake up
and better itself is mad as a hatter
its been getting politically, economically, socially and morally
bankrupt increasingly over the last 30 years especially

I was born in the mid 50's - 1955 to be exact....... and I had a wonderful, wonderful really awesomely fantastic childhood full of love and good stuff...... but the past is dead and history and we can never go back we can only go forwards and what we need to do is learn from the past and take the good stuff and do our best to remove the bad stuff and make a place that is better than we could have ever imagined - a place where a Japanese marketing designer can already sit in his beautiful home near a stream and a mountain and really appreciate nature while at the same time contacting his clients via the internet in a video conference............ back to nature with the aid of technology is what I'd aspire to in 2050!
