OneKitty: Actually.... can only do that here on the side streets not on the highway, and gotta have insurance too, not very clever if can't drive on highway as closest town is 7 miles away for cheaper groceries..
In some cases depending on where you live.....You can drive a GOLF CART.
Yep, its not a new concept, friends..... blah, blah, blah....
If there were incentives to buy one, ie no VAT on them it would make sense for some people to drive one, if I lived and worked in a city and didnt do a lot of driving then I would probably buy one, I could park it in the garage and charge it up at night time using cheap elecricity. But what about somebody living on the sixth floor of an apartment block, would they be allowed to run extension leads over the balcony? I think before we start talking about electric cars there needs to be a lot of work done.

Your too late. Chrysler already builds one. Id think about one but its so far to everywhere that the range isnt long enough for me.

Hi Thumper, I know there are electric cars we have them in europe too think you misunderstood what i was saying, The work that needs to be done is for places to recharge them, Ie charging ports for people who couldnt drive their car into their garage or if you were to go on a long journey there would have to be stations where you could recharge quickly along the way,,

The one Chrysler is building wouldnt be good for a long trip. Its range is only 30 miles and it takes hours to recharge. As they become more popular, the infrastructure will come along for them. When they first started building gas cars, gas stations were few and far between.

I just returned from Italy. My cousin's husband was telling me the 50/50 they have (electric/petrol)runs at similar speeds as petrol or diesel.
The added bonus is that their PM, Berlusconi is giving people about 4-6,000,000 Euros towards the cost of purchase of such a car, but only if it is brand new. So that explains why so many cute new fiats were all over the place!
