I think the cultural differences may be coming into this, as well as your Mum being worried it may affect your studies. Western beliefs are different to Eastern in many ways, in the West i would say no it would rarely happen.

No not really but i did live an Asian country and learnt abit about culture and saw that parental opinion was very important in the family, and is listened to,Sure your Mum wants the best for you

moonlove you live in Thailand and are asking people who mostly don't live in Thailand for advice on something that is very cultural. Thai culture and western culture are vastly different so it's not the best idea to consult Falang about a Thai family problem...better to ask your classmates and friends.
90% of western falang will answer no to your question because they don't understand the cultural dynamics involved. I don't see it as a yes or no question...more like consult your feelings about your mom and your need for a boyfriend and find out which is stronger...also consider the pros and cons of each situation and make the decision that hurts you the least.
Tough choice I know but put some effort into it and I'm sure you'll work it out.
